In the old, pre-TV days, it was common for teams to wear colored jerseys if there was a contrast between the colors. That carried over into the early TV era. I've always though that must have been an attractive sight: teams in black or blue or green taking on teams in red or gold or orange. The problem is that when people looked at these games through black and white TVs, it looked like this:
With the lack of contrast it was decided that one team would wear white jerseys and the other colored jerseys, (usually the home team). I've always felt that was a little duller and that it became unnecessary when color TVs came in. But for some reason, we've never switched back to using jerseys that simply had a color contrast.
I'm pleased to see both teams in the CC title game in colroed jerseys. It looks good and I hope it starts a trend.
