The issue can be tracked right back to the offensive line. When he has time to throw he’s great, too many times he doesn’t and thats reflected in the sack numbers. Defense played well enough to win, but they needed more than good and had to be great. Will it Get better as they go, not without the oline getting better. I don’t think any coaching can improve it until then. It was a great effort at the end, but needed a miracle that they almost got

Great is making throws under pressure. Great and DeVito, at this point, should not be used in the same sentence.

you’re clearly not watching the games. O-line was pretty good yesterday and sacks were from holding on to the ball for 5-7 seconds

Agreed. The o line can not hold off 7 rushers. They were fine in pass protection. The qb needs to recognize the blitz and hit is hot read. Or run like tommy did at the end.

Truthfully though I would much rather see throw over running. He needs to look for slants, seams, swings, or back shoulder fades. Because they were constantly open.

I miss the kid who came in at the UNC game and decided to throw bombs every other play.

I would say when he has time to throw and his primary receiver is open he's great.

The OL should be blamed when the sack is too quick.

The OL should not be blamed when the primary receiver isn't open and he can't scan the field to pull the trigger. Which happened a lot last night. But they will be anyway.

If a QB doesnt have time, he will never be great, I wasn’t saying Tommy was over all, just when he was in the right situation as an6 QB would be. There’s to much focus on him and not enough on the rest of the rest if the teams issues.

That’s a large part of it, but he’s not blameless.

Nobody can read defenses, and see the field, and make decisions, and pull the trigger for him.

Throwing a good ball(can we kill that corny “arm talent” thing?) is only one aspect of being a good QB. So far that’s about all he does well. Which gives him a high ceiling, but man he’s got a long ways to go - and yes, he’d be further along if he had more help form the line.

Ok, well I watch every game. Oline was good on running plays for the most part. Pass protection. 8 sacks allowed is not a great performance nor is it pretty good. It’s piss poor, imo.

With no run game the offense is constantly in 3rd and 10. It's horrendous. DeVito is not playing well and he's also not being put into the best position to play well.

Struggling to understand how a team with 41 rushing yards and a QB sacked 8 times was playing with a pretty good O-line...

If a QB holds on to the ball too long because he’s missing the reads or running into defenders he’s going to get sacked. You also realize that at least one sack wasn’t an actual sack but a result of how the NCAA determines sacks??? An offensive line can also play well and not run the ball well for a variety of reasons. You also realize rushing yards aren’t calculated the way they are in the nfl, when TD runs out of bounds for a negative 8 yards that comes off total running yards.

Sorry but we didn’t open to many holes or we woulda had more yardage easily.

They were actually better in pass protection,
Especially in the first half then they were in run blocking. Just because TD gets sacked doesn’t mean the oline is at fault. If he holds the ball for 3-4 seconds and doesn’t throw the ball, then gets sacked, you can’t blame the line. They played well enough to win the game.

kendall and alton were all over the NC qb too. pass protection was a wash. not a decider.

Online was good on running plays for the most part, yet Moe Neal averaged 5.6 ypc last year and averages 4.3 ypc this year.

Tommy hasn’t been great with pressure, the backs haven’t been great about yards after contact and the WR have been particularly disappointing (except Jackson) but the Oline is by far and away the biggest issue with this offense (or lack their of)

no qb will be good under constant pressure. TD is not a good mobile QB, that’s why we call him a pro style QB. Not saying he isn’t able to move, just not his strength. The issues on this team run deeper than him, I’m not sure what the movement to place the blame on him is about. WRs are dropping balls, 8 sacks just aren’t on him Even if he held a couple to long. Yes he needs to get better,But he‘ll not improve much until other areas improve also.

DeVito had 5 ’in seconds to throw the ball on half his sacks. I’m sick of people blaming the offensive line for everything. They stink too but when people send 6 guys in at once...the receivers and the QB are supposed to see it- break off their called route- and hit a quick slant. That’s on the coaches too. They all stunk last night.

The problem I have is we have receivers open. A lot.

0 hot reads and that’s basic football to me anyways.
