He was a Joel Mareiness protege, (following Bob Costas), back in the 70's and, (unlike Bob), remained in this area, doing sports reporting and broadcasting for about 20 years until he got a gig with the Yankees. Joel always used to call him "Coney Island Dave." You can still hear his voice on commerical voice overs.

I thought he always did a good job covering sports. Better than most of the hacks you see and hear these days. I wish he had hung around Syracuse and gotten the SU sports gig and stayed.
