against Cincinnati and another mobile QB. Many posters are saying that it will be a shootout. I agree that Shafer's game plan against USF was almost a complete failure. But, should we not expect better against the Bearcats?

As usual, your post is a failure.

Take it easy... Jesus. I think people are saying that they will be tough to defend and we will have our work cut out for us because at the end of the day Cinci is a pretty good football team. What

I would add to this that in an era of teams spreading defenses out, with pretty good, mobile QBs and solid overall personnel -- it ain't easy to post a shutout or lock a team down in general. Obviously that remains the goal, but realistically you hope your defense can generally be pretty tough, tackle well and create negative plays/turnovers. But there are going to be some ugly moments for most defenses through the course of the season.

The defense had one bad game this year so far. The whole body of work suggets they will be tough on Saturday. BJ Daniels is one of the best running QBs that SU has ever faced. The only one that I would say was better is Michael Vick. Fortunately we wont be playing against either one of these guys on Saturday.

The truth is that SF had a great game plan and executed it beautifuly. They played their A game and SU still won. That says a lot to me about what this team is capable of.

According to OrangePA he's the best QB Syracuse has faced all time! ;)

BJ Daniels' feet really weren't a huge issue against us last Saturday. Their offensive line destroyed our front 7 and their RB's made the rest happen. Yes BJ did get loose a few times when he should've been sacked, but that's what you will deal with against a mobile QB. He wasn't on point IMO.

To the OP, your post could not be any more exaggerated and outright BS. Consensus seems to be that the Defense will be helpless? Maybe in your world. This is the same D that had held the 1st 3 BE opponents to about 35 yds/game rushing and held them to like 16-17 points/game. We also went 2-1 and gave the loss away against an overrated RU team (yes go pound salt RRRUUU).

Bromley is out and a few others are dinged up. Big deal. Time for the next man up to come in and smash someone in the mouth. Play some SU hard-nosed football and beat the piss out of the other jersey in front of you.

Why was SF able to do this when no one else has? Was it the scheme or was their OL that good?

Yes

What some of us are saying is that getting into a 4 quarter game in the 20's favors them. Their run game is better better than SU's on both sides of the ball. SU has a distinct advantage when it comes to the pass game. That's why we should TRY to get into a shootout.

Poor tackling, over pursuit, and losing contain.

Why do you say that their run game is better on both sides of the ball? SU has one bad game and youre implying that the run defense istnt that great. The week before they held a team to negative yardage. So why do you say this?

So they just had a poor game?
In my opinion, it was partially the players, and I think Shaf was a bit too aggressive. Look at the job we did against UConn when they tried to go Wildcat. We won't give up over 200 rushing yards this game.

any time you give up 80 and 50 yard runs you will not have good numbers.. USC/USF/SB we gave up 70+ yard runs. and all the long runs should really have been stopped for 5 yard gains. really USF was the first team that seemed to run the ball well. SB we stuffed the 2nd half. USC we made a decision to force the run and allowed the one reverse, but USF had 2 big runs and a bunch of other good ones as well.

That's what I'm thinking. Like I said previously it was a great game plan by SF and not so great by SUand that's going to happen some games.

The adjustments may already have been made. USF got 294 yards rushing in the first half and 75 in the second half. You can't make a comeback without stopping the other team.

Relax, the reason I'm saying it is because Cinci is better running the ball and defending the run, it's just a fact. They have more dynamic runners who can get chunk plays and their QB is a featured runner. It's just reality, not an insult.

For SU the run defense was an issue early, NWestern went for 166, USC for 279, and SBU 224. I recognize that some of that, just like USF was a product of big runs. SU adjusted and had some excellent performances against the run, but Cinci has been doing that all year. VT and Toledo had good days, but other than that they have shut their other opponents down for the most part. They held Lville to less than 3ypc last week.

They bigger contrast is on offense. 4 of 7 games over 250 yds, one 210 and another 196. The only game they struggled running was VT. They don't have negative plays. They have lost 5 and 4 yards from scrimmage the last two games.

Has SU run the ball much better the last two games, without a doubt. But before that, other than SBU, they struggled to get to 130 yds. They averaged 3.5ypc the first 6 games.

SU has gone a long way in turning around it's running game and run defense, but that doesn't mean that Cinci has been better at both this year.

On the 80 yard run, it looked like Davis made the tackle. Unfortunately he tackled Diabate. Agree with you, a lot of plays it looked like we were just too aggressive. Which can happen if you start becoming a dominating run defense, you try too hard to top the week before. If the DL can fight off the OL a little better this week, and the LBs can play a little more disciplined, we'll be fine. Cincy will still have some big plays I'm sure, but it won't be the run D disaster that Saturday was. And we still won that game.

Again the NW game gives me faith. We stopped their running game and they run no huddle spread with a fast RB and shifty QB.
