legit question---do most new coaches deliberately not contact committed players as a means of sending a message that we do not want you??? i only ask this as we have had two decommits, not surprising, but were they contacted by the staff----i am not complaining at all just curious

I would think each coach is different. Not necessarily callous towards a recruit they don't think will work out, but probably more caught up in finding those that they think will. At least I hope so. I'd hate to think any of them say "If I don't talk to them, maybe they will go away".

But everyone is different. You probably see both ends of the continuum and everywhere in between if you look at the entire coaching community. :noidea:

I would guess that it has more to do with prioritization as opposed to neglect. I would also guess that they have, or are still in the process of, evaluating the "fit" of the current commits and existing players, combined with planning for who they are going to target.

No one really knows who and when anyone was contacted. I am sure that every commit has been contacted as no staff is going to burn relationships by getting a bad reputation. Some commits are told that they are still wanted, some are politely told that they should look elsewhere. No one is deliberately not contacted.

It must take some time for an entirely new staff to actually go through film, determine whether they will push to honor a commitment or to perhaps pull the commit, determine its remaining recruiting priorities, and reach out to the recruits.

I'm not too panicked over decommits at this point b/c there are still two months to signing day, and it's only natural for recruits and staff to size each other up before deciding if it's the right fit for both parties.

In fact, I'm kinda surprised that there have not been more decommits.

I think these two kids were either told directly or indirectly that we were looking elsewhere. By saying nothing at all, they give the kid the chance to decommit without being embarrassed.

The staff has different personnel needs and have graded out other players higher, so these kids are moving on. It's not a knock on the staff or the kid, it's just a numbers game.

I'm glad to see our staff shaking things up. Even with Shafer here, I was always unsure of the number of similar kids that had committed for this class in particular.

We need whatever guys they, the new coaching staff, think we need.

It doesnt sound like these first 2 gentleman that decommitted fit HCDB style

Definitely not. They both play positions that won't exist in the new systems (Okie for Harper, and Hybrid for Stubbs). So as much as it sucks to see kids decommit, it seemed inevitable with them.

So we need what? Safties and WR's?

And DL depending on whether the suspended kids and/or others stay. Even if they stay actually as there is very little depth behind the starters other than some "projects."

Of course, I was just relating to the two decommitts.

This sounds right to me- This is big business so we should not expect the status quo to remain with the new staff. Their jobs are all on the line starting the moment they sign the contracts. I wasn't a big fan of the mediocre, bottom of the ACC class the previous regime assembled this year. I'm hoping the new staff can make some last minute upgrades, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
