Today's game finally allows us to ask the board's favorite question... Would you rather win boring or lose in an exciting fashion? I was always on the win boring train but honestly today was very entertaining and made me think.

PS. Stop doubting Hackett. Dude killed it today.

Take away a few stupid turnovers and a few bad punt coverages, and this would have been a boring win.

I'll say this: there was a lot of positives that came out of today's offensive performance. Nassib looked like a difference maker. We were down arguably our top two receivers [Lemon / Stevens], and the rest of the guys stepped up. Broyld got involved. The beleagured OL even looked functional for the first time in years, without the top player in the unit. And the RBs looked solid.

Not suggesting we're going to get 600 yards every game, but for several years our offense has been inept. I think we are going to score some points this year and moving the ball won't be as much of a struggle. This offense can win us games and take us bowling.

The lose in exciting fashion is the one thing that's comforting me right now.

A lot of people were pegging this a "must win game" which is obviously hilarious being the first game of the season. However, if we lost a boring game the outlook would be pretty bad. At least now, there is hope that we can get this win back against a team we probably would have pegged as a loss.

13 penalties...most were the mental error types and punt coverage unit needs a makeover

Cut down on the penalties and we have a team that can win the Big East and be entertaining.

If we can get through Minny at 2-2, I think we can keep the ball rolling through the conference.

The answer as always is "win and nobody cares" but looks like this year we're finally going to put the question to the test.

Hackett and Macky as whipping boys is over too.

Broyld is good, real good, thought he would be Football Paul Harris but nope.

Tough to get outraged about penalties made by first-year players but I'll try: RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE. I'm no good at this.

No one's mentioning Krautman's miss. Make it and we're all high fiving the bartender right now.

If someone would have told me we would come back and take the lead after most of the 3rd quarter, I would have say, how? Donovan Mcnabb is not walking through that door folks. This team usually dies after a team takes a lead like that. It gives me hope that we can compete, we had the LOOK of a Div 1 football team, and that new WR Clark, don't know where he came from, but a welcomed and pleasant surprise.

I asked almost the same thing leaving the Dome, although my query was "would it have been better to lose by the 20 we were down, or watch us give the game away at the end like that?" I think I would rather lose the close one than have to watch the incessant re-plays of us getting kicked around. Our team showed us something today that we haven't seen in awhile. They proved on the field that we can compete with a team from a power conference. If we can clean up the BS penalties and execute on every play, there is no reason we can't take the BE. There is no reason we can't beat Minny or Missou. I have no delusions of a win over USC, but I don't see us getting totally embarrassed either. These guys are going to be hungry and pissed off.

To answer your question, I would have rather we won this by 20...after coming back from 22 down. ;)

Hackett , You must have missed the 1st Quarter when SU settled for 2 Field Goals inside the 5 & 10 yd Line

I mentioned it in another thread. I didn't see a replay of it, but I'm wondering if it was a poor snap or hold? He was sharp in his warm-ups. We had a perfect view of that play from behind, and he came across that ball. It was not a clean straight follow through. The minute it left his foot it had no chance. I was stunned at how bad he actually hit that ball, which was why I wondered if he had to hesitate due to a bad hold.

I'd say this says it all. :)

Team is way better with Gulley on the field than Smith.

Team is way better when both get some carries since they are so different and we run different sets and plays with them. Neither is an every down do it all back. We are better with both.

If you score 41 and have 600 yards, you will win much more often than you lose. Today was one of those rare days that it didn't work out. So to answer the question, I'd rather have 40 points and 600 yards each game and whatever happens happens.

Actually, it did have a chance. If they hadn't been whistled for a false start on 3rd down, the FG is good. He only missed by 1-2 yards. Still, he hit it poorly as it wasn't end over end but a sideways rotation.

I don't know about you guys, but even though SU lost today, they were the most impressive out of any of the current BE schools except for UL who plays tomorrow.

I said that in another thread.

Never want to lose by beating yourself. Our schedule is too tough this year to be giving away games. Rough start.

Would you say that Minn is a "must win game" now?
