Let's not be like PSU with our heads in the sand and/or making excuses. At the same time, let's not assume guilt. We're talking about old allegations from a quarter of a century ago. To me, the appropriate response is to immediately put Mr. Fine on leave with no contact with SU or the program. Then, let SPD do their job. (Which, by the way, they are excellent at investigations.) From there, I'm sure DA will review.
SU should not get in the way of a criminal investigation by starting their own investigation. What they should do is give complete and unfettered cooperation with SPD and the DA. When that process is done, SU can do their own follow-up not bound by the "proof beyond a reasonable doubt standard".
Also, please God no excuses by SU administration, coaches, or fans. Be zealous in fighting abuse, yet fair until all the facts are in.
