Back in '88-89, Sherm led the country and set the single-season SU record for assists with 326. He played in 38 games averaging 8.6 per game.

MCW has 142 assists through 14 games. He is on pace to set the new record as long as he stops shooting 3's.

I will update periodically throughout the season.

Fun fact:

Since early 90's, MCW already has more assists through 14 games than the team leader had in '91-92 (Autry - 123) and '03-04 (GMac - 118). He is only 1 behind '98-99 (Hart - 143) and 3 behind '06-07 (Devo - 145).

Haven't really played anyone yet besides SDSU, Ark, Temple & Rutty, but it is still impressive what he's been able to do.

That's awesome. He is going to shatter Sherm's record if we play enough post season games...

MCW may break The General's record and have a better NBA career, but he will likely never do this nor be the signature man in the country with the alley oop like Sherman was. Don't get me wrong, I really like MCW, but he hasn't reached the level of love I had for The General and what he gave to this program. MCW has a good shot at the record too, because the big east seems weak compared to back in the day, and this has been probably one of the weakest out of conference schedules the school has had. It still would be an amazing achievement, but I wanted to add a little context to it for Sherman's sake, not for the sake of knocking MCW.

Sherm was the real deal. Averaged 8 assists/game over 3 yrs in the old school, gangster, club-punching BE.

I'd be willing to bet if we still were in an era of having college kids play ball for 3-4 years before making he jump, MCW would average 9.5+ for 3 years. The kid is insanely talented, and far prefers to pass than shoot. It's unreal how much he wants to pass the rock in today's game, players like him don't exist it's going to be awfully fun to watch him while we have him.

MCW has 160 assists through 17 games averaging 9.4/game leading the country. He is on pace to set the new record.

Fun fact:

Since early 90's, MCW already has more assists through 17 games than the team leader had in these entire 6 seasons:

'91-92 (Autry - 123)
'94-'95 (Lloyd - 155)
'02-'03 (GMac - 155)
'03-04 (GMac - 118)
'98-99 (Hart - 143)
'06-07 (Devo - 145)
'90-'91 (Red - 164) only 4 behind
'92-'93 (Red - 161) only 1 behind
'04-'05 (GMac - 168) only 8 behind

Haven't really played anyone yet besides SDSU, Ark, Temple, Rutty, Nova & Prov, but it is still impressive what he's been able to do.

UPDATED as of 1/14/12.
