Autry's reaction to this final game to the season is so different from what we just heard from Gerry McNamara. Both ended the season with the same wins 14, we had one more loss. SU had 20 wins last year - so we are down 6. Siena had 4 wins last year - so they are plus 10. Syracuse collapsed in their last game - lost by 20. Siena lost on a last second shot with .5 seconds left. But here is the thing. Red took no responsibility for the season, gave no reassurance to the fan base that things would improve, blamed the press for bad coverage and basically gave no real hope that next year would be better. Gave no plan on what he wants to improve. I really don't think he even knows. He came off like a broken hearted baby. Gerry suffered on the surface a more devastating heartbreaking loss. Yet he already was reassuring the fan base. Saying it was his responsibility to work on improving the team and emphasizing his need to bring in more players who could allow them to play more physical. Emphasizing that they have to be able to play at the rim better to be a more competitive team. Saying it was all on him to improve the team while saying how proud he was of his teams grit and growth. Frankly Gerry did no more than any competent coach would do to address the fans at the end of the season. This isnt a comment about how great Gerry is - as I said the SS McNamara at least for Syracuse has sailed for the foreseeable future. It is about how badly Red let us down this year, is still letting us down and whether he has any definite plan to improve the team other than use NIL to bring in better transfers. I am a tax accountant so this is a hellish time of year for me. And I will admit I depended for years on the high and joy SU basketball gave me this time of year. Now it brought me a great big zero this year and I admit that I am angry. Angry that the big shots up on the hill don't acknowledge that next year is destined to be more of the same. And hearing what Red said, and didnt say, shows that he doesnt give a damn about the fans at all.
