There is too much money involved now and too many massive donors the days of coaches staying 4/5 years and building programs at the P4 level without success and "learning" on the job are over. For example, Utah just fired their coach who had a record similar to Red 65-62 (.512 winning %) because he didn't make the tournament.  That is the standard now.  Coaches at school who want winning basketball programs will not allow coaches to "learn" on the job like they did 50 years ago.  It is a different day and an age.

If you get a P4 job, you better be ready to win in the first 2/3 years.  Have a plan for the portal.  Plan to build a roster.  Plan to install a culture.  Plan to install a system of basketball on both ends of the court.  Plan to win over boosters.  Plan to win over the community.
