Under the current status of our football program this is a perfect hire and now I have total faith in Coyle as an AD for the rest of his tenure. Babers totally makes sense. His resume has almost everything we need. If things dont work out with Babers during his time here I will still have total faith in Coyle. This is a great hire and shows total competence on his part.

Yup. Even if it doesn't work out I'll feel the same way. This is a good hire given all things knowable going into this transition.

Beyond that, I would credit the Chancellor for getting the right AD and allowing him to do what he needs to do with his support.

Yup, its becoming apparent in a hurry that our leadership, from chancellor on through the Athletic dept is at an ELITE level. Now go announce the Dome reno's and lets really get rolling. Not bad for a private school battling a bunch of state universities. Love my school.

Mods, please correct the post header to "Coil-Coil-Coil"...thanks!

Am thinking a Dome announcement is within a week or so away.

That would make sense. Still a positive buzz about Babers. Let that ride for a little bit and then keep it going with the Dome announcement.

Dino Babers seems like an inspired decision - to Mark Coyle's credit.

At this point, Mr. Coyle appears to be the antithesis of Daryl Gross - he stays out of the limelight - keeps it close to the vest - is very understated.

How that will translate onto the field of play remains to be seen.

He strikes me as probably the perfect balance between Jake (at least the Jake toward the end) and Gross.

And that's probably what we need.

Just my opinion, but I think Jake, in his older age, was too shy and reserved for the modern AD role. Gross was too over the top. Classic tale of the 3 Bears.

IMHO, Jake was just putting time in towards the end of his tenure. During the first ACC consideration in 2003, Buzz and Jake were lukewarm about joining the ACC and the visiting ACC leaders picked up on that vibe. I think that he just didn't want to deal with change. From the Baltimore Sun: "Syracuse athletic director Jake Crouthamel maintained that his school - seen as the reluctant one of the trio possibly leaving the Big East - has not made a decision on leaving its current league. He said the visit hadn't necessarily altered his view one way or the other, though the school's president, Kenneth Shaw, will make the call."
