The Syracuse cross country teams will enter the 2014 season with similarly high expectations as both programs occupy the No. 1 spot in the Northeast Region in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll.

A strong core of returning student-athletes – six of the top-seven women and four of the top-seven men from last year's NCAA Northeast Regional – will be back on the course for the Orange this year.

The 'Cuse men – who won the NCAA Northeast Regional last season – were slotted ahead of Iona and Providence who finished second and third respectively in the poll.

The SU women took third at the NCAA Northeast Regional in 2013 and were picked ahead of ACC foe Boston College and defending regional champion Providence to start the season.

The USTFCCCA National Preseason Poll will be released on Tuesday afternoon.

Syracuse will open the 2014 campaign at the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y.
