Cross Country Takes Second at Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invite
Leiher is the top-woman at the event

State College, Pa. – The Syracuse cross country teams placed second at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday, behind host Penn State.
The Orange women were led by
Sydney Leiher who was the top finisher in the event (21:01), while the men placed
Joel Hubbard (26:14) and
Colin Bennie (26:15) in second and third respectively.
The Nittany Lion men won the event with 41 points, with 'Cuse right behind at 47, just ahead of Georgetown (48) and three spots ahead of ACC foe Pittsburgh (136 points). The Orange women finished with 38 points, behind Penn State's 27 and a large margin ahead of third-place Duquesne (107 points).
The men placed all-five of its scorers inside of the top-21, with
Dan Lennon (6th, 26:17), Harry Lang Invitational champion
Shawn Wilson (15th, 26:28) and
Andrew Bennison (21st, 26:35) each recording points for the Orange behind Hubbard and Bennie.
Joe Kush (22nd, 26:37) and
Nick Ryan (24th, 26:46) also had strong races for the Orange, placing inside of the top-25 overall.
The women also placed seven inside of the top-25, but its five scorers were even more tightly packed to the front. Behind Leiher,
Maura Linde (5th, 21:25),
Haley Cutright (9th,
21:38),
Beth Wright (11th, 21:41) and last weekend's winner
Angelica Peck (12th, 21:43) each scored, with Katie Fleischer (24th, 22:09) and
Rebecca Skodis (25th, 22:11) serving as the sixth and seventh members of SU across the line.
The Orange will return to action in two weeks when it heads to the Boston to compete in the Boston Inter-regional on Sept. 27.
