SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The cross country team will begin its 2014 campaign this Saturday at the Harry Lang Invitational in Hamilton, NY. The men, who finished 10th in last year's NCAA Championship, and the women, who finished 22nd, both enter the season ranked in the top-13 of the Coaches' Poll.

Ranking the Orange
  • Both the Syracuse men and Syracuse women enter the 2014 season ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Region in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll.
  • The men's team is ranked No. 8 in the national poll while the women's team is ranked No. 13.
  • The Orange men were unanimously selected to repeat as ACC champions in the ACC coaches' poll. The Orange women were picked to finish third in the conference, just as they did in 2013.
Looking to Repeat
  • The Orange will have a number of titles that they're looking to defend in 2014, with the first being the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday.
  • Both the Orange men and Orange women took first place in last year's Harry Lang Invitational.

Appreciate this. My oldest (13) runs XC and perhaps reading some of this will give him proper motivation to train harder. He finished 4th overall in their first open meet because he didn't really train hard over the summer. Gotta show up in shape!
 
Looking at the Colgate athletic site looks like this meet starts at 11:30.

The Syracuse cross country team got their season started in dominant fashion on Saturday, cruising to a pair of victories at the Harry Lang Invitational.

Men's Results | Women's Results

The 'Cuse women took the top-10 spots in the race and the men placed 11 in the top-12 including the first five. Junior Angelica Peck took the women's crown and freshman Shawn Wilson earned the men's title.

Peck paced the women's race, finishing in 16:30.50, exactly 10 seconds ahead of sophomore Emily Nist. Freshman Stephanie Bitcon (16:51.00) was the first SU newcomer across the line, finishing third.

Senior Molly Malone (17:00.90) and sophomore Rebecca Skodis (17:12.40) rounded out the Syracuse top-five, with Katherine Fleischer (6th, 17:12.40), Karina
Ernst (7th, 17:14.20), Mary Malone (8th,17:24.70), Chelsie Pennello (9th, 17:34.80) and Sabrina Olsen (10th, 17:54.60) rounding out the Orange in the field.

A pack of freshmen were out front for the Orange men as Wilson completed the course in 20:38.80 in his Orange debut, with Mickey Burke (2nd, 20:39.10), Colin Bennie (3rd, 20:39.30) and T.J. Hornberger (4th, 20:39.60) right on his heels.

Junior Andrew Bennison took fifth with a time of 20:40.10 to close out the Syracuse scoring. Joseph Kush (20:42.60), Nick Ryan (20:45.60), last year's champion in this event Juris Silenieks (21:08.70), Robert Hall (21:20.70), Philo Germano (21:23.60) and Andrew Paladino (21:34.90) finished seventh through 12th overall respectively as the other 'Cuse competitors.

The Orange will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on the campus of Penn State.
