'Cuse Men's and Women's Lacrosse Cancel Fall Season Events Citing the health and well-being of its student-athletes, its opponents and the campus community, Syracuse University announced today that its men's and women's lacrosse teams will not participate in fall season events. During the past few weeks, the University has been working closely with New York State and Onondaga County Health Department officials to swiftly respond to confirmed cases of mumps among its student population. Currently, eight students have been diagnosed with mumps, including members of the men's and women's lacrosse teams. "Our student-athletes' safety, and the safety of all students, faculty and staff, remains our top priority," said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "After continued discussions, and with great counsel from the state and county, we are confident this is the right call." The men's and women's lacrosse teams will not participate in any organized activities for a minimum of three weeks. This will allow the Department of Athletics to employ necessary measures to help prevent the further spread of the disease. The University's Office of Health Services continues to activate its strong response protocol. This includes isolating the potentially infected students, sanitizing all areas with which the students came in contact and notifying all people who may have interacted with the affected students. The Syracuse University men's lacrosse alumni event scheduled for Saturday, October 14 at 1:15 pm at the Carrier Dome will feature one game involving former student-athletes. Tickets are $10 and will be available at Carrier Dome gates A, B and C. Parking is free in the West parking lots. The 2017-18 Orange men will not participate in the event. The Orange women's lacrosse team will not participate in fall play days at Penn State, Navy and Manhasset, N.Y.
