36th?

I can buy about 55th...when you throw zero TDs in conference play and show very little life versus 3-4 opponents I don't buy you are 36th. Only 3 spots behind GTech, really?

Take out extra "o" in the swear word. BTW, why can the Boneyard post Scoout links and we can't?

for fricks sake lets take some good press when it comes to us. Lord knows it's not like we are overflowing with examples of press that err on the side of too positive when it comes to the football program. If this is a scouting service doing this - all the better!

even at 7-5 id still put em around 50.

Yeah, it's out of whack a bit. I don't think you can have us ahead of BC*. I don't buy the "how we looked" argument though. It's important at the top when you're trying to figure out who deserves the right to play in the BCS championship, but I don't get why we need to apply the "look test" to teams past the top ten. Who did you play, who did you beat?

Breakdown:

losses to elite teams: Clemson, FSU
losses to good teams, with a trick offense we've never seen: GT
losses to teams that seem to be peers at this point: Penn St, NW

wins vs teams that seem to be peers: Maryland, Wake Forest
wins vs teams that are not good bad: NC State, Tulane
wins vs a team that we should and did steamroll: Wagner

Remaining games:

2 teams that seem to be peers. I think BC is better than Pitt, but both tend to be overrated by the media. Not this poll, mind you.

*yet.

The only ranking that really matters to me is the one Vegas uses to help determine where real money goes. That has us at No. 68

FYI, Pitt is #54 and BC is #57. These next two games betting wise are complete coin flips.

Penn St. is #67. God, I want a re-do!!

It was as if they wanted to make sure they had Maryland above Virginia Tech. But wanted to make sure they had Syracuse above Maryland. So VT set the floor because there was only so far they wanted them to drop.

I'll take it though. Looks nice on the screen.

That is exactly what I was thinking. We just beat MD on their field and MD beat VT on their field. Therefore SU>MD>VT but VT was 7-3 and couldn't take a complete nosedive out of the top 40 soooooo..... we get awarded with some kind of crazy transitive property ranking.

It's pretty funny if you step back and look at it rationally. Really what are people arguing over here is our 5-5 is better than your 6-4, 5-5, 5-4, etc (or in UCan'ts case 0-9). It doesn't much matter. No team on this list (other than maybe Duke) is playing for anything of consequence at this point and they've all shown they can all lose to each other on any given day.

Who took this pole - Otto?

It sucks to be Northern Illinois. 10-0 and ranked at #49.

Thought the same thing. Also, 9-0 Fresno State @ #50.

I also like the SEC bias in this meaningless poll to match the ones that actually matter. 7-3 BYU? Yeah they're just a bit worse than 4-6 Florida.

After the top 15 or so, who the heck know. If this is someone's perception of us, I am okay with it.

Let's take it a step further. We are at #36. Pitt is at #41 and BC at #57. It isn't inconceivable that SU with 2 wins over those 2 could rise up to the top 25. Even if not, if we win those 2, we will go to a bowl game at 7-5 against an ok team (currently projected as Ole Miss (SEC #7) #14 currently or Arizona (SEC#10 replacement) #45 currently) and if we win that one, we could easily be in the top 25. I recognize its CFN poll not the Coaches poll, Harris poll, AP Poll or BCS rankings, but it still provides us the opportunity to tout that we are a top 25 team according to somebody. In our first year in the ACC with a new coach, new QB, new WRs and top 25. Can you imagine what a boost that could be to our recruiting?

A reward for a tough schedule and playing 6 road games. It's about freaking time somebody noticed.
