This so not a typical political post and is directly related to football.

https://rutgers.forums./threads/whi...e-most-pro-rutgers-athletics-spending.292582/

I don't usually meddle with others' politics but since both major parties have candidates for cutting Rutgers funding, I thought most SU fans would find this amusing. Though, I can understand our NJ brothers and sisters being a bit sensitive on this matter, you have my sincerest apologies and best wishes.

That said, I am for all the candidates promising to cut Rutgers funding. Hey, I am for the Big Ten cutting Rutgers funding, too. Can we ask that the students stop funding Rutgers?

Please keep this a fun thread focused on cutting Rutgers funding while keeping the real political issues out of this thread and on the proper board. Thanks.

If you elect me, I will make sure all state money is used for academics and the AD will not be able to steal from the students anymore!!! I would cut all aid to the hair removal treatments for Coach Shady. I'd reduce the use of the Rutgers helicopter to medical use only.

And all of our "Chop Nation" axes will be donated to the National Forestry service!

Rutgers would fit well in the Centennial Conference. Maybe a step down academically for the conference, but still a good fit.

I think if you really ran the numbers you would think colleges are mostly running pretty efficiently

SU has 5000 employees and 20000 students. you run the salary + of 5000 people and its equal or more of 10000 or more students and thats before all the other costs.

Agreed, but SU is a private school and fiscal management actually means being responsible for fiscal management, a rarity at many state universities...[cough] Rutgers! [cough]

I see many favorable candidates from this board willing to take one for the Orange team and serve as New Jersey Governor. Fortunately, this is New Jersey we're discussing so this Texas resident will likely be allowed for each of you without legal ramifications.

P.S. the first candidate to promise to pay the king knuckle dragger Shady himself his actual value (estimated to be $1.27/hour) will receive a bonus vote.

I think most big-time colleges are efficient in that they spend what they take in and not more. Private schools like us have to do this. But whether it’s the university in general or their athletic programs, Rutgers has always operated as a school that will “get bailed out” because they are the “state flagship” and NJ should be proud of them and support them, blah blah blah.

We (and others) IMO are not really “efficient” because we don’t have to be. As with most top tier schools, you have salaries that are no where near in line with the private sector. Department heads, who are often times just maintaining the status quo, are paid $750,000. Professors who teach a few classes a day and have jobs guaranteed for life make $200,000. Often equally talented professors are performing those duties at lesser schools for pennies on the dollar.

But mostly it is the “arms race”. Colleges are always expanding and getting bigger and “better”. Athletically, academically, the quality of life in dorms, food, etc, are constantly improved with facilities being built that are night and day different than Syracuse was when I was in school.

Meanwhile, most people on the Rutgers board think they are swimming in cash because of the big 10 money, ignoring the $80,000,000 deficits as if it’s Monopoly money. I would vote for any candidate who is 100% sincere about stopping the gravy train to that dumpster fire.

Budget issues or mismanagement

College costs have been rising faster than inflation for decades
In part because lots of studies showed kids preferred expensive schools. There was a perceived value thing with more expensive schools. But then financial aid offset it. All a game.

The real issue is student loan debt and the increase in that for a lot of useless degrees.

You should use the helicopter to do to Shady what Bond did to Blofeld.
