Total class move to make his long snapper who has the name Jim Brown one of the captains for this game vs us. Dabo gets it and I love that he did this (although some people on the syr.com board don't think its a class move, I disagree but I could see both sides of the coin on that I guess.) But, it also tells you the mindset of college kids, when Dabo named Jim Brown (his long snapper) captain, the Clemson players had no idea who Jim Brown (the famous one) was.

And unfortunately the vast majority of college players these days are in the same boat as the Clemson team. Zero knowledge of history. To them "the old days" is like 1990.

Most kids only know players from their era now. Few and far between are the kids who study the game and know it's history.

I'll be completely honest, I just don't like the way he looks. There is nothing more to it than that.

Watching the game last weekend with my girlfriend and she said, "Dabo vs. Jimbo...Why do you spend so much time watching this stuff? Maybe Shafer should call himself Scottbo?"

You've got a big screen TV and a couch in the kitchen?

Complete sarcasm but couldn't resist that one. I'll let myself out

Umm... he is right.
Nunes is rarely right. I would say it's due more to our pathetic performance over the last 15 years then retiring a number. Since we retired the number who could have worn it that would have stood out?

Every time I hear Dabo speak, I can totally see why his players would run through walls for him. He's building something special at Clemson.

Honestly their fans can be beyond petty and annoying, but I like their program and find myself cheering for them out of conference.

I can't really say that I am surprised, kids now days are over more disconnected to the history of the game than ever.

Players have never been all that connected to the history of their respective sport. I remember reading the exact same complaints from sports writers in the 1980s.

I feel like players back then at least knew a decent amount about the history of the game.

And some do now. Geez, didn't we just fawn all over Fournette for his odes to our great #44s? Most weeks some visiting player talks about being excited to play in Syracuse where all these former greats played.

Fournette is a rare kid, he has a tremendious head on his shoulders. I feel like if you gave an entire college football team a quiz on the history of the game, the results wouldn't be good.

Probably not. But I'm doubtful they ever would be.

I mean I went to SU in the 90s and interacted with football players. I'm very doubtful most of those guys knew who, say, Roger Staubach or Archie Griffin were.
