Day Eleven Fall Camp: Fri., August 11, 2017

i laughed at this. i walked out onto a lacrosse field (sideline) this summer with my 14 year old while he was gearing up before practice. He says, can you leave, you're the only parent out here and its embarrassing. lol
I gotta admit that I never understood the parents that would come and watch practice. If I wasn't coaching, or helping out at practice somehow, I would never sit and watch practice. I can't really judge too much though because I was usually a coach be it the head coach or an assistant. And if you were a parent just watching one of my practices I put them to work (unless they were busy chasing around other kids or otherwise occupied). I do remember how odd it felt when my oldest started playing for the school team. I planned on watching practice because I had coached most of the kids and was truly interested. It took me about 15 minutes to realize that no one really wanted me there and to be honest I wasn't really enjoying myself either. I'm down to one kid and one sport now that I coach. I do admit that I do stay at my son's bowling practices once in a while. But in my defense they have a bar there and I'm more of in the same building than watching practice!

I hear ya, I coach youth lax for over 10 years now and it annoys me that parents watch every practice. Though by 7/8th grade it wanes. 3rd-6th forget it the sideline is mobbed with parents. In my defense for the above - it's his club team and we travel 1 hour for practice. 2 hour practice. then an hour home. I don't have much choice but to hang out.

sorry to hijack the thread. back to football.

It was the same way for football here in Texas. at 4 years old, all parents are there, by 6th grade, maybe a third stick around. I didn't mind it particularly because parents who leave sometimes don't show when practice ends. Coaches have to stick around until they get back.

When my sisters' boys played football at that age in Texas all the parents were around for practices and some of the fathers helped coach. But then some of them were players for the Cowboys. ;)

Yeah, lots of dads coach. Some act like they're coaching college players, lol. Some of the dads just take it too seriously. Did your sister play on Snoop Dog's Dallas team or in his league?
