My prediction. Back up QB - Devito is the true #2 , but unless Dungey goes down for the year in one of the first 6 games, I would rather see Mahoney as the back up and save Devito's eligibility. He is far too valuable to waste a year of eligibility for anything less than close to a full year. Interior OL - Servais C, Adam OG, and Davis OG. From all reports the true Freshman is ready to play immediately. I think he will be the most surprising starter. 2nd string Heckel C, Byrne OG, IR - Nykiem Johnson will win this job. Kid is a stud. Riley is too small, and Avant hasn't played his entire career for a reason. I'm sure Riley will see snaps, but I like to see one of Babers guys getting the nod. Outside WR - Devin Butler will start and be one of the top WR's on the team. Custis will gets some snaps and be productive as well. We're looking good at WR. SAM - Valdez will win the job. Bigger and more well rounded than JT. Thomas will be a fine 4th lb though and really don't see them missing a beat when he plays. I wouldn't be surprised to see Guthrie get a lot of snaps as well. CB - Frederick and Martin win the starting corner jobs with Scoop and Butler close behind. Another position with a lot of depth. I could also see Fredericks playing some FS if need be, allowing the best players to be on the field. Dowels as a 5th CB shows just how much the depth has improved. DE - Coleman and Black. Don't think it will be close either. All of the injury issues they have had the past 2 years may prove to be beneficial this season as guys on the 3rd string in the back 7 will all have significant game experience. It's really a shame Clark was DQ'd because the depth up front wouldn't be all that bad either. Same goes for Roberts with the interior OL. You could honestly put any combination of 5 or 6 guys and not really miss a beat. The only positions that I really see lacking quality depth (or even quality at the top) are OT, TE, and RB. Don't get me wrong I think Ravian Pierce is going to be an absolute stud. I can see him as a potential all-ACC type of TE and one of the leading receivers on the team. Only thing is if he gets hurt then we are hurting for talent, since there is really nobody behind him. I wouldn't mind seeing Custis cross train at the position since I see Butler as the clearly better option. OT we are in desperate need of some talent. Conway is a solid OT, but McGolster doesn't give me much confidence. If Cody goes down we are in trouble. RB is lacking quality talent as well. Strickland didn't show the burst that is needed or the strength to run between the tackles. He was a little bit better towards the end of last season, but I see him as a serviceable back-up at best. Neal is too small and would be better off as an IR. I think Johnson impressed so much that they moved Neal back to RB since the only other option will be a true Freshman. We really need to attack OT, TE , RB, and DL this recruiting class. Landing a high end talent with the potential of Qaadir White would be huge. I'd like to see them go after another as well. Same as RB. I find it hard to believe we can't attract a blue chip RB x 2. I'm starting to feel better and better about this season the more I hear about it. I think they will be better then Pitt this season, and have a major coaching advantage over NC ST. Wake won't be a pushover, but our talent is similar, maybe slightly better and our scheme is better. Then maybe this is the year we beat someone we aren't expected too. Miami, Clemson, FSU, and Louisville have all proven to be vulnerable at times and Clemson/Miami will both be working in new qb's. 7 wins will be tough, but won't be out of the question, then let's get 9 in 2018 :-)
