Two of the primary goals of box jumps are to
enhance explosive power and vertical jumping height.
The box jump is a great bodyweight exercise that is effective at improving lower body explosiveness that has carryover in various sports. It’s used in Crossfit, Olympic weightlifting, and in many strength and conditioning programs for sports.
The whole point of the exercise is
to increase the amount of resistance that you experience when you actually jump up onto the box. This will make the exercise harder and cause you to push yourself and give you a much more effective exercise. The muscles worked while doing a box jump are your
quadriceps, gastrocnemius and soleus, hamstrings, gluteus maximum, abductors, adductors, and your core. Set up your box. It should be sturdy, stable, and won't tip over. Start off with a box that's about knee-height or a little lower.
