Watching the show from Lucas Oil on FloSports tonight and amazed at what these groups do today. Top corps have annual budgets atound $5MM and it shows.

Any other drum corps aficionados out there? How would you describe the activity to the uninitiated?

My SIL was in one that competed at these things. Still watches, the amount of training and travel is crazy.

I grew up around it. As a drummer, nothing beat hanging out in the "lot".

I will say, my age is causing me to have a "get off my lawn" mentality. The talent is out of this world, but what they have done to their uniforms is horrible. For generations, the Crossmen, Cadets, Blue Devils, SCV, Cavs, etc were recognizable from a mile away. Now they all look ridiculous and the same. They went from a militaristic look, to flowing colorful garments, and I hate it. Where the Bayonne Bridgemen and Velvet Knights were once the oddball laughing stocks to a lot of fans, they would both look very honorable by today's standards.

And I agree, they wrecked some nice uniforms.
