Just watching this Stanford game makes you scratch your head and wonder...why haven't we just fed Smith the rock over and over. Enough of gimmick crap. 1st and 10, give him the rock. 3rd and one ...give him the rock. Let's see how we fare if we give Smith 25 carries against maryland. I predict if he gets 25 we win

Why can't Syracuse have half of what Standford has? They have stricter academic requirements and less football tradition but their program has been absolutely crushing it these past 5+ years. Power running game, killing the clock, and hard hitting injury inducing defense. That's exactly the formula to beating Maryland this weekend.

Hell they even stole our block S and @suathletics twitter handle...maybe we can borrow some coaches and recruits.

The news yesterday that Maryland will be without its best linebacker for the Syracuse game is going to help us with our running game. We should be able to hurt them with the run. Let's see what happens.

We should give Rome more touches but we do not have Stanford's O-line. Some of his best runs come when he heads between the tackles but then has to bounce to the edge because there is no room to run.

we need to score touchdowns because unlike stanford, we don't make field goals

stanford has the 22nd ranked defense and the 80th offense.

we have the 42nd defense and the 81st offense.

vs BCS
SU 75th offense, 68th defense
Stanford 55th offense, 2oth defense

Stanford wins with defense. Maybe their offense is good for their defense in practice. But let's not pretend like their offense would do much for our chances with our defense and kickers

Ironically, it seems like Gulley's best runs have been inside, then make a safety or backer miss at the 2nd level for a 50+ yarder.

Gully is a north/south runner...always has been.

yet they continue running sweeps with him, it is horrific

It's awful. When he finally gets the inside handoff up field, he busted a 50+ yard run. It's quite obvious we are built for pounding the ball up the middle. We don't have the speed or the personnel to run east/west, especially since our TE's seem to be awful at blocking. At least, I noticed that last game.

Yes, run Smith & Gulley off tackle in every drive if it is working. But be careful. Fans will want passes on first down & second down (and sweeps or trick plays), if those runs get stuffed. Fans are fickle.

Looks like a both starting ILBs will miss the game. Need run it North & South.
