FSU and Miami and Clemson and even UNC, because of all that the school is, winning BIG will always draw many more TV viewers to ACC football than the same number of Wins by Wake and BC and even Pitt and Syracuse. So for the ACC with its current membership to secure a significantly better TV deal, the league must figure out how to make certain that it has a decade in which Clemson, FSU, Miami, and UNC all finish in the league's Top 5 every year.

The Dook prestige also matters, as much as I hate too admit it. Dook's football TV numbers are far from the bottom of the league, so Dook winning more than 8 games matters - just not as nearly much as FSU and Clemson winning the same number.

The other factor is bad press hurting the ACC. Right after ESPN agreed to honor its previous promise to sponsor an ACCN, which pissed off the SEC royally, because it had informed ESPN during negotiations that it wanted ESPN to sponsor no other league network than the SECN, ESPN began regularly trashing the ACC, both football and basketball. I assume that was done to appease the SEC. And it has had the effect of dragging the ACC down considerably in the minds of even CBB fans. So our network has stabbed us in the back to try to keep then SEC all happy.
