I'm not the sort who gets butthurt from percievwd slights from the media.

But his ranking of the sweet 16 teams is questionable at best. I'm not even salty over being ranked last. But all he says about is "happy to be alive."

1. That's bullish/t. We aren't some mid major making our once a decade trip to the dance. We have three guys who were on the roster when we went to the final four.

2. Weird that Gonzaga isn't just "happy to.be here" considering we get to wear our white jerseys and they needed to win their tourney to be in.

The ESPN reseeding put us 10th.

The odds at this point are highly based on who is #1 / or left in your bracket.

Notre Dame / Wisconsin, are last at 33-1 which is a bit surprising since they only have one top 4 seed in the group.

Oddsmakers cdo prefer Gonzaga over Syracuse having them at 16:1 rather than 25:1

DeCourcy continues to complain that SU got off too lightly by the NCAA and should have been banned from post season maybe like forever. He seems to be personally offended by the infractions and how 'dirty" JB is. So it's not surprising he will bash SU at every chance he gets. He has also become a shill for the B1G since he does commentary on the BTN.

When you only win by a combined score of + 44, you are happy to be alive and still playing.

What kills me is the goofy rationalization that is taking place in the sports media discourse.

Dayton's better than us, and their rock fighting style is perfectly suited to exploiting our weaknesses. We're the lock of the week to lose. Then we club them like a baby seal and win by 20+.

Next, MTSU is the hottest team in the tournament, and they just knocked off the team that the media has been licking their chops to proclaim the top national championship contender, falling all over themselves all week about how MSU got screwed by getting a 2 seed. The team that knocked off mighty Sparty is going to annihilate us, with their incredible three point shooting and aggressive style of offensive play.

After we wiped the floor with them, the narrative has changed significantly. Now we got lucky to draw a favorable game. Suddenly, MTSU isn't the team that embarrassed Sparty, but somehow we're supposed to believe that they were a patsy who is providing us with a path to the Sweet 16 that we didn't earn.

All I can say about the media is, GOOD. Keep talking smack. Keep disrespecting our team. I hope every one of those stuffed shirts ostensible "experts" in the sports media continues to pick against us all the way. Michael Gbinije couldn't have put it any better when he said, "Thanks for the motivation."

Yeah, the mighty B1G. How've they fared in the tournament so far?

Talk about overrated.

And yes, I'm getting fired up at work...

These idiots are starting to piss me off.

DeCourcy has a weekly segment on a local KC morning sports show and I really enjoy him. He has written some really complimentary pieces about us in the past but it's been years since I regularly read him. Not many people go to the Sporting News for their sports news anymore. But this is obnoxious. He should be above analysis like that.

Exactly. The ESPN reseeding article was comical. Calling our matchup against Dayton "favorable" and basically dismissing MTSU as a gimme. Both are complete falsehoods, or at least in the case of MTSU a complete reversal of the narrative since this tournament tipped off.

Meanwhile, Syracuse has the highest margin of victory so far of all teams left except Nova. And amongst the 6 ACC teams in the Sweet 16, we have the biggest scalp (yes only a 7 seed, but still the highest rated team any of them has beaten).

I would like to copy and paste this baby to my bracket group (with attribution). Eloquent, with the perfect amount of snide!

Could I play the role of Debbie Downer here? This has been a great tournament for us so far and I could not be happier. We have a real opportunity moving forward as well.

Having said that, us, (and all the teams in the tournament) are usually exactly what we have been all year. Which means we are a 19 win team in a great conference and us and Gonzaga are probably the worst 2 teams left. We caught a huge break this past weekend and to our credit, we took full advantage. We also caught a break with Gonzaga, but after that, our chances are very slim.

Now, I was the first to say how wrong I was when we got invited to the dance and I hope to say how wrong I am next Sunday night and the following Monday night! :D

Edited to add: in response to the OP, the team is clearly not just happy to be here.

I don't completely disagree, but I will say this: The team we were all year is a streaky outfit that went on pretty significant hot stretches where we were really good. We got back on one of those hot stretches last week. If it continues, there is no reason to think we won't beat Gonzaga and then at least have a puncher's chance against UVA. UVa is probably the last team of all those left that I would want to play because of how we've struggled against them. But if we play to our hot streak potential - we can beat them.

I do agree with you here. We really only need to pull off 1 upset to get to the Final 4, and any year we make the Final 4 is a massive success. It wouldn't even be that huge of an upset, it is not like we recruit a bunch of 2 and 3 star guys. That is the great thing about our basketball program...even in a down year we have the talent to beat anybody.

Who cares about a guy that works for a publication that hasn't been relevant since the early 90's?

That sounds like a Trumpism.

"He's horrible! That magazine is going out of business!"

But, yeah.
