I think the first reactions to what transpired are frustration and anger. That arises out of the desire everyone has for the program to be moving forward and the hopes everyone harbors for the program to return to a level of respectability. Once the sense of hope is dashed with frustration and anger the finger pointing isn't far behind. Certainly there is plenty of blame to be assigned for those who wish to do so but that won't change anything for the better. I feel badly for the kids who were out there representing Syracuse University and giving all they had, early on, only to find that they had been ill prepared to compete and their efforts are often lost in all the post game blame pointing which goes on. Sadly, as the defense discovered that they had been given an unfamiliar scheme which was utterly ineffective to stop what GT was doing, they found themselves frustrated, gassed, and worst of all, questioning the leadership ability of those people who had prepared them to play in this game. As the defense labored under humiliating conditions, the offense found itself having to compensate by taking risks which it normally would not have taken and when you witness your teammates being thrashed by the opposition and the panicked demeanor of the coaching staff, your performance is going to suffer as well. I'm hoping that somehow that through some honest self appraisal by the coaching staff that they can make some changes and find out how a game plan from a strategic perspective which was so horribly ineffective could have been implemented. They may not have been destined to win yesterday but I have a hard time believing that the game should have ended up being a point a minute to nothing. And finally, how much of a commitment is the University really going to make to restore the program to top 25 playing level? Allowing an outcome like Saturday is a step back in the wrong direction for Syracuse Football.
