While opinions vary with respect to the quality of our defensive play this year, I think most, if not all, would agree that our run defense was much better than our pass defense. Because of our risk-taking blitz 65% of the time approach to defense it stands to reason that our pass defense stats should be worse than our run defense. However, I am a bit surprised as to the degree to which that appears to be the case.

Our total defense stats look great but our scoring defense stats, while still commendable, are an order of magnitude worse. The reason appears to be that we have given up 16 passing touchdowns and only 6 rushing ones. We also give up 216.4 yards per game passing and only 127.3 rushing. Is the difference due to scheme, coaching, talent or a combination of all three? Perhaps, it is the nature of the competition we played.

It i shard to avid the appealing thought that better secondary and linebacker play might make us a truly elite defense.

Wait, we are yielding an average of 343.7 ypg? That's a fire-able level of production for opposing OC's, given the prolific offenses of the current era.
