Deja Vu all over again

The 1st college football playoff is a rematch of the 1st NCAA tournament. In 1939, Oregon beat Ohio State

1958:
cool to see that. Loved the part where the announcer said something to the effect that the games not over until they complete the tradition of tearing down the goal posts. Can you imagine that today? Alexander and Catalano, etc. would be dropping their cards all over the field/endzone!

Also notice:

- The two broadcasters for the game are legends: The Yankees' Mel Allen and the Lakers' Chick Hearn. Allen got his start as a football guy, doing Alabama broadcasts in the 1930's become coming to the Yankees in 1939.

- When Oregon's fourth down pass was incomplete the players don't leave the field. They hustle back to the line of scrimmage because they are also playing defense. One platoon football reigned until 1964, when the substitution rules were opened up.

- The Johnny Robinson who got into the game at the end is the guy who later coached USC and the Rams. Both he and John McKay played their college ball for Oregon.

- The Ducks uniforms resemble LSU's with the darker color being green instead of purple. But they weren't copying LSU, which didn't adopt their current design until the 1958 season. They were copying UCLA who's uniforms had been designed by Red Saunders to be distinctive and make it easier for their quarterback to look down field and spot his receivers.
