Interesting, I was involved in two different stadium groups, 1969 and 2007 which the article didn't mention. The 1969 movement was what got the ball rolling to forward thinking on the stadium. You would not believe the opposition to such an idea one politico went on TV and said "This is a grandiose idea in these times of inflation."Was an exciting time for SU football to have a new stadium built after that craphole Archbold.
Remember being in Coach Maloney's office on a recruiting trip in 1977 and seeing a model of a new outdoor stadium at Skytop. Looked kind of cheap for a stadium and that was his big sell to prospective student-athletes.

Seeds were planted then as they always have to be whenever you want to effect change and backwards thinking.
I remember Maloney pitching the stadium on his coaches show on TV at the time. Skytop, the State Fair and Bridge Street (where BJ's is) were the prospective sites with Skytop finally being chosen. Seems to me that the Dome on campus idea came out of thin air with the 3 Mels (Eggers, Holm and Zimmer) leading the way. I remember the construction phase and being able to walk around the construction site and being able to enter and go up into the third tier before the roof went on.Was an exciting time for SU football to have a new stadium built after that craphole Archbold.
