Deon Goggins to DE

I like the move w/ Goggins and it makes sense for Welsh since he wasn't ever going to be big enough to play inside.

That note about injuries at the end is a bit alarming. Hopefully it's mostly precautionary and nothing major for those players.

Will we be seeing more 3-4 base defenses?

Goggins, Crume, Bromley, any number of options at DE across the front 4. Will be our best D line 1-4 in a long time.

I was hoping this move would happen. We definitely need more size upfront and this would seem to indicate that the coaching staff thinks the other DT's are good enough to move him. I too am curious to see if we run a little 3-4 this year. Some versatility can't hurt.

Don't forget our big JUCOs

I hope our spotters can figure out who is injured

"Marrone said injured players would not travel to Rochester for Saturday’s scrimmage. The Orange will have about 65 players on the field in Rochester, but six of those are specialists – kickers or snappers."

Hopefully the injuries are only minor, and they'll be ready for autumn.

The rash of injuries that has hit this team since about the mid 2000's is absolutely insane.

The team plays three down linemen when they run out the Okie.

But I really doubt they would move to a 3-4 defense. There isn't the size or depth at linebacker to justify that.

Davis, Lynch, Spruill, Vaughan. The depth is there

Great point.

They may be fine, but I like DE's a little taller than they are. They aren't your prototypical DE's. Not good when you lose 3 senior DE's and there is nobody behind them to step in and you are moving 6'1 guys outside. Hopefully the JUCO's and frosh can help.

You just named half of the scholarship linebackers for the Fall and you say the depth is there?

LOL so true, LB depth is pretty scary right now trying to play a 3-4 would be a disaster if anyone got hurt.

It's better to have guys lacking ideal height vs weight, strength, speed, talent or a combination of those. Freeney did alright for a short guy. Really interested to see the new faces at DE and what they have to offer.

Hopefully this speaks volumes about Bromley's and Crume's progression inside as well as expectations for Zian Jones and some of the others already here.

Are you saying that Bromley is one of the injured players to be named later?

I know his hand was taped up the other day. Wasn't sure how serious the injury is.

remember its april...if they have a knock...then its better they dont practice and that is what Doug is doing...injuries are everywhere on twitter I follow a lot of CFB people and they are constantly tweeting new injuries. Either way Pierce Brewster will be stating in Chan's spot that is something I would put money on. LEGOOOO!!!!

Not saying there is depth, I am stating the talent is there to play a 3-4. I'm not saying we use it as a base defense, but there are certain times in which we will need to play from the 3-4; USC comes to mind.
