Strong is not happy about the direction of his program, particularly his offense. In last night's press conference he announced the demotion of his two offensive coordinators, and promotion of wide receiver coach to OC. Wonder if either of those guys are going to jump on twitter and let the world know how they truly feel about the demotion.

Why do defensive head coaches have such a hard time deciding what they want to do on offense?

Strong should have waited one more year at Louisville and then taken the Florida job. His Florida recruiting is amazing and he had a connection to UF from his days as Urban Meyer's DC. Dumb decision to go Texas even though Texas is a top 5 job in CFB. He would have been a better fit at Florida after Muschamp.

Strong should never have left Louisville. Sometimes, the grass isn't greener, and "opportunities" aren't.

Exactly. The assumption is always that I can recreate "there" what I've done "here." (See Rodriquez, Rich) It doesn't necessarily work that way... there are a lot of moving parts.

This really reflects badly on Strong IMO. The guy he had calling plays was doing so the last 3 years with Strong. If the guy wasn't good at his job the change should have been made in the off season. So what could possibly change after 1 game?

The Shafer situation was bad but at least he was giving a brand new OC time to develop a new system.

How does someone pass up the chance to coach Texas?!

I mean, worst case scenario is that it doesn't work out, you get paid handsomely, and you go work for another program after you're fired.

How many schools would line up to hire Strong if UT axed him? The answer is: a lot.

And if you succeed? Glory and an insanely lucrative contract extension.

Louisville is fine and all, but there are other Louisvilles out there. Not too many Texases.

Instead of demoting assistants, maybe try to convince Teddy Bridgewater to return to college football - for the University of Texas.

That's what got him the Texas job in the first place.

He should have known Florida was 1 bad year away from firing Muschamp. He had connections to Florida. Louisville was paying him handsomely and if you read his family life he appreciated Jurich sitting his neck out for him in South and had a loyalty to the guy.

Texas might slightly be better than Florida as a job but he had no connections to the state. The cited above Rich Rod to Michigan was the perfect example. Rich Rod can coach but was a bad fit for Michigan. Strong will be fine for now but Texas is a different beast than most schools.

Miami(Fl) firing Randy Shannon is what got Teddy Bridgewater to Louisville. Charlie Strong can recruit Florida. Strong is just out of his element at Texas. Texas is a job you can't say no to most of the time but when Florida was on the verge and he had security and 3 million a year job at Louisville he should have waited for Florida.

Many in the AD at Florida are not fans of his ... at all. Strong may have been a "candidate" but he never would have landed that gig.

Rich Rod is doing pretty well at Arizona though. I just think he wasn't a good culture fit at Michigan.

I believe you but what aren't the Foley Admin a fan of and where is this stuff from? I have not heard anything bad about Strong.

teddy bridgewater was so good that strong actually believed that pro style was the way to go. it probably held louisville back a little but bridgewater has a way of making you really confident that your offensive approach is the right one

He's black.

No .. when Strong with interim head coach some clashes occurred in the AD that made it hard for everyone to "get along". Some alums I know told me that the AD knew he had a great defensive mind but didn't feel the overhead of personality management would have been worth it.

Strong had a good thing going at Louisville; that program basically became his, in my opinion. What would convince someone to move from a place he pretty much built to a place that essentially had been crushed by a wrecking ball? Even if it is Texas?

I don't think going to Texas was the wrong move for Strong. But now that he's there ... it's win or heads roll.

A shame.

He was able to feast on the big east for a while and made a name for himself doing so, it was time to cash in. Even if he bombs at UT he will get another shot you can bet on it.

Yep, him and Franklin are in similar positions. Neither of those fanbases will accept mediocrity until they figure it out.

I would take him here in a heart beat.

Absolutely. Strong basically cashed in and secured his entire financial future with Texas, if he gets fired he goes to a lower P5 school, recruits the shite out of Florida and does just fine. I don't think he was going to wait a year for Florida. Texas job is still better and in an easier conference. No guarantees that Florida hires him either, their new hire is a good old boy and I think UF was looking for offense as well.

You seriously wonder if the AD along with a few 7 figure boosters might have helped Charlie with this decision, seems very odd he would do something like this after game 1.
