They were doing a Mt. Rushmore of various programs with the caveat that one of them had to be a coach.

Someone called in for Syracuse and threw out Coach Mac, McNabb, Brown, and I think Ernie Davis. I thought that was a great set of picks buy what really struck me is how many great options we have for a SU Mt. Rushmore - Czonka, Little, Konrad, Nance, Morris and that's for RB's only... how about Harrison, Monk, Freeney, Darius, Mackey, Tim Green, Bullock and on and on.

Crazy that we've been so bad for a decade but before that we had so many all time greats,

Konrad, Darius and Green are a dime a dozen for this type of thing.

I think Darius is very underrated, but I agree with your statement. This is Brown, Davis, Little, and Schwarzwalder. Funny, that's the same as 44 Plaza. There is room to consider others, but who do you remove? Little is most likely, and Harrison or McNabb might be my first choices for replacement. Morris and Monk should also be considered. JMHO

Agreed. If one has to be a coach, I'd go:
  • Ben
  • Brown
  • Davis
  • Harrison
Little, McNabb, etc. are great candidates, but Harrison put up historic, all time numbers at the NFL level.

I think the GOAT fullback gets a spot.

If it was a perfect mix of sports, I would go with:

Gary Gait
Jim Boeheim
Jim Brown
Ernie Davis

If it was just football:

Jim Brown
Ben S
Ernie Davis
Dick Mac

If it was just coaches:

Jimmy B
Dick Mac
Ben S
John Desko

IMHO, while Desko has had great success, its gotta be Roy Simmons Jr. He took the program to the national stage. Desko continued the tradition but I don't see him as more important than Roy.

Desko?! Did you sneak that in there to get a rise? Of course its Simmons Jr

GOAT fullback... Csonka or Moose? I agree Mackey should also be considered. Damn this is hard.

Mookie
The Wright brothers
Gorman

I go with Little over Harrison.

He was a three time All American, and was an All Pro on some pretty bad Broncos teams.

His total career productivity at SU is probably unmatched.

Ditto.

Ben and the 3 big 44's.

So as far as coaches go...does Coughlin count?

Could go with:

Coach - Coughlin
Marvin Harrison - One of the best WR all time
Jim Brown - The GOAT
Ernie Davis - Only Heisman winner

For players, it has to look something like this:

1) Davis
2) Brown
3) Little
4) Csonka (potentially best FB of all time)
5) Mackey (The TE college award is NAMED after him after all)
6) McNabb
7) Harrison
8) Morris
9) Monk
10) Nance
10a) Freeney

For coaches it's got to be:

1) Ben
2) Mac
3) P

4) Marrone

1,999) Robinson

Excellent list though I think (your late add?) of Freeney could be #6 or 7.

I wasn't thinking defense at all until I posted. Then I just kind of stuck Freeney in there. I agree he could be a bit higher.
