Did they belong?

After semifinal weekend a lot of people wondered if Oklahoma and Notre Dame belonged because of the way they were dominated in their games. So, after being shut out in the second half and losing by a larger margin than Notre Dame, did Alabama belong?

Some people were going on the theory that if a playoff game proves to be one-sided it should not have taken place. Why have a World Series when everyone knows the Red Sox are the best team? Why have March madness when Duke obviously has the best team? Why have a national championship game when Clemson was obviously the best team?

Hindsight is 20/20. The playoff worked out just as intended this year. I still prefer an 8 team format, but the committee got it right this year with the format we have.

Agreed. I know it's a boring take for the internet, but I don't think the committee has made a mistake yet in the 5-year history of the playoff.

Bama deserves the benefit of the doubt with all they have done they can stink it up for a game.

Sure. But with hindsight they proved no better than Notre Dame when comparing a common opponent.

The lesson being results of the games was not proof the teams that were blown out didn't belong.
