I wanna know about the Cannazorio kid from Caz. He he had a pretty strong showing, did we not get involved with him?
I do not know how involved SU was in the recruitment of Miller. He attended Brodie Merrill's Hill Academy and SU has not had much luck with getting those kids. Denver on the other hand seems to have the pipeline flowing from the Hill and Canada in general.
I think Townie is spot on, like certain parts of Long Island Syracuse has decided to concentrate its effort elsewhere. Unlike certain schools on LI I dont think SU has abandoned recruiting players from Canada/Brodie Merrill but as Townie noted its been a no mans land for SU the past decade. I dont think we were involved at all with Miller.
SU jumped in later in process, he was already down the road with UMD, UNC, Princeton, etc. Personally, I think he is one of the more versatile players in the class, think he will end up as first team AA Midfielder at UMD.We were involved but he saw the logjam and I think both player and school agreed to go in different directions. Great player though, certainly a player I would want.

Thanks for the information. Miller is going to be a Tewarrton candidate by his sophomore year.
Obviously, I've notice the flood of Canadians going anywhere but SU.. The reasons why, and I don't know any, are worthy it's own thread.
Great Canadians have been buoying programs like Duke and Denver the past decade. We have a rich history, with the Gaits, Marachek, and most recently Cody Jamieson. I know we have Keogh, but why we do have any lull in Canadian recruiting?
SUs historical winning formula is a mix of Canadian, LI, and CNY. And the Canadian piece has always been crucial to filling the net.
You'd think names alone, gait, jamieson, etc would draw new Canadians every year.
There has to be a reason why we haven't landed some of the big time Canadian talent. It seems like we lost some traction with the Nation when we tried to get the Thompsons on campus and they couldn't make the grade. I don't think we've been involved with any major Nation players since, have we?
Someone around here has to know what changed.
That maybe a question only Woody or Outoftownie can answer. Denver/UVA and even Duke to an extent have really hit the Canadian player pool hard over say the last 5-10 years, Syracuse on other hand sort of shifted its energy into locking down pretty much all of New York outside of NYC/LI and started a national recruiting strategy hence the players from Chicago, Oregon, Florida, Philly, Texas etc. Another issue that I think plays a role is SU has been one of the few big time powers to shy away from extremely early recruiting that teams like JHU, UNC, and UVA now live by.
Also SU has tried to get back into the Island a lot more the past few years, the results have been mixed but I think it was the right call as were getting killed down there and to be honest in some areas we still are but slowly you are seeing an Su re-assurgence and the mystique of an SU offer return. Between the Island, Upstate and the Canadian/Indian territories somethign had to give, and due to the issues we had with Jerome Thompson, Kent Squires Hill, the younger Thompsons, and a few other highly skilled native players I think Desko and Co decided to pick adn choose those battles more carefully as we were wasting a lot of time and effort with little in return.
Isn't KSH the guy that was charged with murder after killing his girlfriend???
Had a class with him IIRC. Cool dude. But......Yup, such a shame, a buddy of mine saw him play live a bunch of times and raved about him. We easily would have won 3 straight titles as he was coming in with Jameison.

SadYup made the ultimate mistake, no idea what in the hell he was thinking. I lost track of the case as it was unclear if he would be charged under Native American law or by the local municipality. I believe he was charged by the actual police but no idea what ended up happening, I am assuming he is serving a lot of time. What a waste.

I really do not know why SU has failed to pull more talent out of Canada, especially southern Ontario. I will ask some people over the next few weeks and see what I can come up with on this front. As for SU and Native players, I would not lump them all together.
I'm definitely interested in what you may be able to learn. Hopefully it's not a case of 'we chose to focus efforts elsewhere', or a disconnect with SUs staff.
Like others, I feel an extra sense of pride when native Americans suit up for SU.
Given the increasing popularity of lacrosse, it could simply be that native Americans now have a lot more options. Maybe they are simply picking more interesting places to live?
