Obviously the skill level in the pro game is miles better and the talent between the best and 32nd best isn’t that large.
However, the pro game you see adjustments from series to series if the game plan isn’t working.
Last night was one of the worst coaching performances I have ever seen.
I still support Dino and think he is an outstanding college coach but the fact we didn’t CHANGE anything during that game and let the Clemson defense expose an obvious gameplan that wouldn’t work was terrible coaching.

Somebody on that offense staff has to be able to see what we had in our gameplan wouldn’t work so go to something else. Put a TE in to chip the DEs and slow them down for a half second and give the QB a chance. Or put multiple RBs in a full house and give the QB a chance to dump the ball into the flat more.

In the pro game if something works you keep running that play until it’s afjusted. If that gameplan isn’t working you don’t run the whole game.

The defense gave the team a chance.
That was a pitiful offense performance by those offensive coaches and Dino better realize we can’t just play 5 WR empty against any team with a decent DL and especially one with 5 star talent like Clemson.

There was 0% chance of winning that game yesterday. Even if the team play flawlessly, the refs would pull it out for them like they did last year. So, why would the coaching staff want to show any of our offensive sets and plays to future opponents?

So why play the game then?
My god why not start that backup QB.
Backup OL etc.

Making adjustments has nothing with showing new offensive sets or plays.

This take is amazing. The offensive staff can go 3 WR/1TE/1RB or 2 WR/1TE/2RBs and it would be game specific to that.

Unless you have superior talent like Alabama you can’t just go out there out talent every single team. Coaches have to game plan to the specific opponent.

The pro game comes down to coaching and the college game comes down to talent. NFL teams don't go into games completely out manned. I believe Dino knows what he is doing and that would be a logical conclusion to take from the scheme, or as the OP and others have pointed out, the lack there of. I also think forcing Devto to look down field early in his career and not get over attached to dump passes will pay dividends for the team and him.

While there is truth to this.
College coaching is inferior because coaches don’t adjust.
In the pro game coaches adjust from series to series to what is and isn’t working.
College coaches just try to prepare their teams to their systems and won’t change. Which is the point I am making.
Our college staff needs to be able to adjust and have more than 1 pitch. Having 2 or 3 pitches isn’t like asking to have 5-6 like in the pro game.

If you only have 1 pitch if it’s getting hammered you are screwed. Which teams with good coaching and talent like Clemson can do.

so which of the half a dozen changes we made last night were not corrections.

we went 2-3-4 wide. we went 2 TEs , we went 1 TE, we went jumbo, we went 2 RB, We went shot gun,. we went under center, we went RB/Elmore sets.

those are not adjustments?

I’ve found my hill to die on.

Not only were we given numerous opportunities to win, it was served up to us on a silver god damn platter.

We held Etienne well. We forced two picks from Lawrence who himself was not playing all that well. We continuously pinned clemson inside the 20 on punts.

We had 48,000 fans actually show up and stay through the third.

We had an opportunity to win today, and we blew it not once. Not twice. Probably more than three times.

Lynch best show some life vs WMU.

Should have been 21-21 going into the 4th but we lost our plums in the red zone.

Shaky potatoes does it no justice.

It's exactly the other way around. The pros have talent at every position and guys who can make plays at all the skill positions. That's not close to true at the college level where good coaching with inferior talent can beat better talent. Dino's staff is getting their butts kicked right now. When you have to pick up wins against Holy Cross and WMich to right the ship you've got a big problem.

nope see the Michigan Army game last week Army's way outmatched but schemes and coaching kept them in it

It's not desperation - it's Dome construction. Normally those two games would have been scheduled early and no one would have noticed while the staff was closing major holes on offense and defense with a new team. Can't do that against UM and Clemson. That's why it looks so ugly right now. Just a really unfortunate scheduling sequence required by the construction.

I wasn't expecting much this season, so I'm not very disappointed. TD has 2 more years and will have this years experience to go on. That is when I think the Orange will field strong teams.

People thinking UMass could end up in the Big Ten are deep thinkers, Amiright.
Who in their right mind would have thought that Rutgers would get into the B1G? That would be considered a precedent, wouldn't it?

Rutgers got into the Big Ten because of the population of NJ and close distance from NYC.
The Big Ten added them for the cable money for the BTN.

The population of MA isn’t as high as NJ and NYC.
It wasn’t hard to figure out.
UMass is never going to be a candidate for the Big Ten.
They are way more likely going drop football down to FCS than ever be considered for the B1G.
