Lets assume we offer both the Matt Campbell contract that Iowa State gave him and both agree. Who do you want and why? Both run Baylor's offense. Pros and Cons for each...

Is this a rhetorical question?

Flip a coin. I don't care if it has 2 heads.

No I was just asking I see so many pro Babers people but not much love in the Montgomery thread so I was trying to ask why??

All things equal, I would go for Babers. He has done it multiple times at multiple schools and he at least has some experience recruiting in the same geographic areas as us. Montgomery has one 6-6 year so far and I hesitate with such a small sample size (even Shafer was 7-6 his first year).

I'd take either as well. GoSU96 is usually pretty spot on with his analysis and he has been mentioning Montgomery for years now, so I would tend to look in that direction first.

Gotcha. Give me either. I think Babers has had more pub lately, weeknight MACtion helps his cause.

For an SU fan, the MAC programs are more recognizable because we play them. And if we forget there was a GRob era, there's somewhat of a familiarity even though it's an expected W.

Tulsa, to an SU fan, and to most fans, is a wasteland program.

I think what Montgomery did this year on the offensive side of the ball at Tulsa was pretty incredible. Look at the improvement made on that side of the ball in just year 1. Tulsa is a waste land and he has them in a bowl game.

Either one > Ash
Both may not stay long if successful, alot like Scott Frost. Babers is older and may be more likely to set down roots than Monty who could leave for a Big 12 job eventually. Slight advantage to Dino.

That is my big thing with Montgomery. He is still in his 40s and he may leave for a Texas job but for one of those Texas jobs he would have to do good here for 4-6 years not the 1-2 like Frost by that time I think his OC would be ready to take over if needed.

Both coaches have improved their offenses to top 20 nationally. According to a Bowling Green fan I know, Babers doesn't care about defense...he just believes he needs to score more points. I'm not sure Montgomery's cowboy hat would fit in, in CNY. Babers took over a good program(Clawson left for Wake) Tulsa had losing seasons the past two years...Montgomery has them 6-6 in his first season. Bottom line...with either guy, I believe the Cuse offense jumps astronomically next season. BG's qb looks like Jack Black and leads the nation in passing yards...I guess maybe Babers is the guy!

Whichever one indicates he will put the best possible staff (including with some ACC territory recruiting ties (hello Acosta) together rather than have it be 90% of their current assistants. That said, based on respective ages, this would likely be Babers' last stop (a plus). He may also be more comfortable living in/near the Rust Belt. If you look at Montgomery and his family, they seem like hard core Texas. I'd be happy with either one.

I'd be thrilled with either (or Brohm/Rhule). I like Babers slightly more for us because he has been in the midwest the last 4 years, (so better recruiting ties) and I think he's more likely to stick around than Montgomery, who is a real Texan and I'm guessing will want to go back there sooner than later. To the post above that said he wouldn't fit in, he'd fit in great if he scores points and wins games. Nothing else matters (other than being aboveboard).

They way that all SU assistants were released I doubt we will get any back......just my opinion.

I would prefer Montgomery, because he was at Baylor far longer and had far more responsibility calling plays/helping to design the offense.

He only has had one year as a HC but took an awful Tulsa program from 2-10 to 6-6. If you want a great offensive mind to run your program, you would be hard pressed to do better than this guy.

Agree, he's worked with Briles over a long time so was part of the development of the offense, he was at Baylor before Briles so saw the build out every step of the way.

Baylor same type of institution, Tulsa got instant results.

Plus decade younger and eye on a Big12 prize. Success in the ACC sets him up as a candidate at UT, A&M, OU, not sure, Tulsa does that.

Perfect environment to run that offense, disruptive technology in the ACC. It's one thing to transfer it to the MAC, port it over to the ACC and make it work, the guy will be a rock star.

No chance we get Montgomery IMO. He's a lifelong Texas guy and why would he leave the place where he's most comfortable/has the most contacts?

Don't care.

I Want that problem.

Babers.

People from Texas, never really leave Texas, even if they have to move away.

I have to agree with you.. he is in his own backyard being at Tulsa. Plus I did hear that Syracuse hasn't been involved with Montgomery.

Well if it's true that we have talked to him, there's a chance.

Has he told thanks but no thanks?

I'd bet Brohm, Babers are the first two looks this weekend

Either one. prefer Babers for his head coaching experience and greater probability he stays here for a long time. Monty is a close second. Wonder who is easier to get?
