The brain isn't a lite brite and the only thing that they have is a concussion to diagnose with. When everything is a gray area, there still needs to be a standard to use as a reference point. I do like the idea of accelerometers in helmets to help track damage, but again that's not perfect, and frankly I think a lot of powerful people (like the NFL) would rather the general public and players didn't see that information because it's probably worse than expected.
