Dino / Players Postgame Presser | Clemson

How long could he talk before blurting out “we were robbed…AGAIN!!!”

So basically he's saying they schemed to keep the ball out of Tucker's hands by always overplaying him on the option reads, but at some point as a coaching staff you have to say, "This guy is our star, let's call some straight up handoffs to him and block them up and give him opportunities." Or some screens, just anything to get the ball into his hands.

The only way you should let the difference dictate to you that you aren't going to feed Tucker the ball is by putting 8+ guys in the box, at which point you have to take shots downfield. That's not what they did.

Poor coaching in that regard.

He also said Shrader was getting beat up because he kept taking hits on those runs. Well, if you don't have confidence in him to throw the ball effectively against their defense, and they're overplaying Tucker, and Shrader is hobbled, you take him out and put in whoever is best suited to run those plays, keep the ball, and make Clemson pay for overplaying Tucker.

A big part of how we moved the ball so effectively early was Shrader getting 6+ yards on those plays before any potential contact. They literally could have let another RB or WR, or another QB, take some of those snaps and blamed it on Shrader being too hobbled.

Dabo made the change and won them the game, they could have/should have done the same, and they could have said the exact same thing after the game. "Shrader is our #1 QB, 100%, but he was banged up and couldn't run as effectively and based on what Clemson was doing we HAD to have a quarterback who could run the football down effectively the stretch."

Softball questions.
I can’t believe no one asked about his last timeout. Horrible questions by the reporters. That said the boys played hard. With a few of or injured guys back I think we beat them. 6 starters out is just to many for us to overcome and we almost did it anyway.

He's covering that guy is hurt, IMO.

Or he is hurt and couldn’t handle 25 touches

Tucker used to pop up after every hit last year like he was indestructible. This year he looks like he is hurt after every tackle. Slow to get up. Walks gingerly back to the huddle. He's a trooper and toughing it out but he is hurt. Part of me wonders if GS doesn't want to hand it off because he knows Tuck is hurt and doesn't want him taking the hits.

If Tucker isn't hurt and this was on GS for keeping it too much then stop with the fricken RPOs and call for a hand off. If you aren't going to hand it off and you aren't going to pass it then you are just running wild cat.

His runs and cuts looked pretty good today

No way do you take Shrader out. He played well in the first half.

Watch film from last year and this year. He isn't the same. He is still good because last year he was likely the best back in the nation so even with a drop off he is an elite back. This year he simply isn't the same and I believe it goes back to the hit he took in the first game. If he isn't hurt then why does he come up gimpy so frequently? He has needed med staff on the field in what 4 games?

I’m p offed like everyone else and feel the officiating killed us. We knew that was a possibility that would happen.
I do not think you can criticize the play calling or Sharder. Most people thought we would get beat or blown out. We suffered a loss but I feel we beat ourselves. Our players played their hearts out. We have multiple injuries and they keep fighting.
What they need to make sure is that it does not carry over to next week. They need to get home, watch the film and get healthy. They then need to give a beat down to the golden domers.
Pack the house next week and show these players how much we appreciate everything they give to to SU.

Next man up. You can use him as a decoy for as long as it works, but if that's the case and they figure it out and stop worrying about him, you've got to go to the next man up who can perhaps give you something. If he's so hurt he can't handle more than 5 touches, then you've got to go to someone else.

I'd normally agree but if he got dinged up and couldn't run effectively and they were taking everything else away, you're not pulling him for performance, you're pulling him because he has an injury that is preventing him from being effective. If he sprained his wrist, you wouldn't say we had to let him throw ducks because he played well in the first half. You'd say you love the toughness that he wants to try, but you've got go to to someone who gives you a chance to win.

It's the same concept if he's dinged up enough that he can't be effective as a runner.

But he takes himself out a lot more. Something seems up. Either he is hurt or the staff forgot how good he is.

One concerning thing is that, if he is hurt, we don't have anyone behind him that is good enough to take significant snaps. Look at what Clemson's backup did today. And before today that guy was splitting snaps with a third guy. If our freshman isn't ready to be a productive back up, why isn't the experienced transfer that ran for a bunch of yards last year at his other school? Using Tucker as a decoy can only work so much.
