I don't think that something based on speed and simplicity can be smoke and mirrors.  Smoke and mirrors aren't simple.

For the longest time, our offensive line failed even when they had the numbers in their favor to run the ball.  Their ineptness broke everything.

Now it's more of a general failure.  But I would say that being 76th in yards per play isn't that bad given the level of talent.  That low level of talent is reason enough to make a change.  Against FBS we're 88th.  That's bad for sure but it could be a lot worse with the guys we have.  In conference, we are 128th.

70th in yards per rush, 73rd in yards per pass (overall)
68th in yards per rush vs FBS, 89th in yards per pass vs fbs
101 in yards per rush vs conference, 124th in yards per pass

38th in yards per play offense in september
127th in october

i know the schedule is easier early but i think the problem is more depth, talent, strength.  all on babers but i just don't buy that it's smoke and mirrors or a gimmick as others have said
