I am one of those bearish folks in regards to Dino, and have been for sometime now. IMO, he is an imposter of a head football coach at the P5 level. And, for those clamoring around the 5-7 seasons as a close but no cigar type sentiment, I say good grief, they came against OOC patsies for the most part. Look at his ACC record, 15-35! That clearly speaks for itself. Additionally, it's not as if the ACC is some gauntlet of SEC football type schools, many of them are mediocre, sans Clemson, especially when comparing the ACC records against OOC P5 type schools. Perhaps, SU is a difficult place to win as some have opined in this thread as well as in the past. However, P won, and Marrone took this team out of the frigging abyss after that GRob debacle. One could argue that the reason SU struggles to win here is because of simply bad hires. GRob was bad, Shafer was bad, and Dino, (5 out of 6 losing seasons) is bad too. However, those bad hires in all probablility take a back seat to the lack of commitment from the university's past stewards. Yeah, we are spending now, but the damage has been done to this program, and now (P5 & current landscape) such a tough hill to climb. Even stemming back to the Maloney days, it took the legitimate threat of being kicked out of D1 if the university didn't make a commitment and get a new stadium built. Coach Mac was able to get us back, but it's a different/more difficult environment and landscape nowadays. P's fade towards the end of his tenure here had a lot to do with the university's lack of commitment into its infrastructure, facilities, etc. Complete gross negligence IMO. When Marrone was here, he begged and pleaded for improvements, especially the IPF. However, he was told in so many words...yeah someday or along those lines. Failed commitment from the stewards and powers that be. Actually, considering same, Marrone's accomplishments here were quite impressive considering what he was dealing with. Meanwhile, Dino has been provided with more commitment, resources, etc. than the university has ever provided any head coach. And, he is 15-35 in the ACC. He is who he is, and his record proves it...just as Parcels would say.
