Director of Football Operations Scarnecchia leaves SU...

Not sure that's a good spot for White as it really removes him from Recruiting doesn't it? I would think with all the logistics required for the Ops Director that it would be hard for him to keep his hands in with the recruits. Maybe it would be better to make him an Asst. Dir of Player Personnel or something to go along with a raise?

He was a big part of the program here and was an inside guy... He was also part of Spygate with Pats back in '07. Good luck to him.

Eric White as a replacement? Thoughts? I think it could make sense and then they can promote Cole Dial to Eric's old post.

Doesn't make much sense to me to be honest. I understand being organized and keeping it in the family, but I think moving White out of that position weakens it. And while I think he could do the job, his lack of experience in the operations part of football could weaken that side. Unless it's a way to keep White with a bump in salary or if he really wants to get out of what he's doing and into administration, I'm not sure I see the value.

This is a big step up for him, no doubt. He knows everyone within the program and has very tight relationships with many of the players/coaches. From an operations standpoint, he already handles some of these things. Would he be able to handle everything Steve did? I don't know, but I'm sure Shafer would have a much better idea.

From a career perspective, this seems like a natural upward progression. I can't imagine he wants to deal with 16-18 year old kids his whole career. Management/administration seems like it would fit his skill set perfectly.

Eric White is 24 years old. The guy that left the DOFO position is at least 10 years older than him.

Experience and paying your dues is a big thing. I understand this might be a natural progression, but he's only been in his current role for 2 years... and he's done a nice job, but is that really enough time to give him this type of a role within a high-major football program?

I think we can get someone a little bit more experienced with more connections at this time.

Umm...Rocco Casullo?

He could be a good fit as well, but not sure how much of the administrative side he would want to be on. I'd rather him as a coach who can still heavily recruit the SoFla area.

I don't care about his age and all of that, I really don't. If someone is qualified to do the job, they should get a chance to do so. If Shafer thinks he is the right fit, then White will be looked at for it. We shall see.

As of things stand now it looks like we are abandoning South Florida. But I would agree with you IF Rocco were ever hired it would be to recruit South Florida.

His lack of experience, to my untrained eye, makes him a little less qualified to do the job. Again, I think White is an asset and I get it, but I just don't see the value.

Isn't the DOFO in charge of the summer jobs program, housing etc. ? Could this have something to do with the NCAA crap ? I have absolutely no idea but some of the allegations being bandied about involved the FB program.

I just take it as NFL > college.

First thing I thought of too until I saw where he is going.

My thinking as well.

Yes, but I'd even shoot higher and say he should be one of those Sr. Exec Assoc AD types.
Agree, he should get an extra title, not unlike what he has at BC.

Last I knew, his ambition was to be an AD someday. Getting him back to Syracuse could be part of a succession plan in case Dr Gross decides to leave SU someday. The guy is very good, very qualified and is very tied to the SU athletic program. Or at least he once was and should be again.

Love this idea, but I think the next AD should have been an AD at another school previously. It would be great to get Reggie back and maybe groom him for the job down the line.

I wouldn't mind it if SU took a long look at Warde Manuel from UConn as AD when DG's time ends. Now excuse me as I run away from the arrows being flung in this direction.
