The Bobcats cut two rookies today to trim their roster to 16. The last two non-guaranteed contracts in camp are Dirty and former bust Patrick O'Bryant. NBA teams can carry a maximum of 15 guys, but the 15th Bobcat will likely be sent to the D league and put on their inactive list. The Cats have 14 guaranteed contracts, but they are also sitting on 5 expiring deals so there might be roster space freed up at the trade deadline. Southerland would be 3rd or 4th on the SF depth chart, but O'Bryant would be 4th or 5th on the center depth chart, so I think our guy might have the edge.

i hope so .. with that said he didnt see any time in their exhibition game the other night. unless it was injury related i cant imagine why a guy you would expect to make the roster wouldn't get decent run in the pre-season.

just like that, the equation changes: Brendan Haywood is out 3 months with a stress fracture to his foot, so the Cats will need that third center

The Cats cut O'Bryant today; their roster is now at league max 15. Dirty is still holding on. If they keep 14, the last spot is between him and Jeff Adrien (whose contract number is 2x what Dirty would be paid). Nick Borges at ESPN thinks Dirty has a good shot at making the opening night roster.

I feel this would vindicate our faith in the odiferous one.

Consider, if they're planning on cutting him they don't want to have him go off for 30.

Charlotte's beat writer Rick Bonnell tweets that there will be 15 NBA scouts in attendance at tonight's game vs. Cleveland, all looking over possible roster cuts that others can pick up. So, you might be right - Charlotte might have been trying to sandbag the other teams.
