I have been led to understand that the University wants to use the space on which the Dome sits to construct a new academic building. The Dome, for terms of attracting national top quality football players, is a hindrance, at best. The look of the Dome on TV is boring and antiseptic. A new stadium, located elsewhere, if done in conjunction with other development, could be the catalyst to a economic upswing in the local economy. New development that we already know is coming is the I-81 replacement. With a new stadium, SU's ongoing construction, etc. That is a lot of wages that are going to be earned and spent in CNY. The Dome will need to be replaced at sometime. Why not now, when it can help the recruiting and possible resurgence of the FB program. My preference, if this was to be done, would be to place it near the inner harbor. Couple it with a tram for students to to get from SU, to downtown, to Armory, to the stadium, to the mall, to the transportation center and to the airport. Let's move Syracuse into the 21st century. A hipper town, with good public transportation, can attract new residents and investment. If not at the Inner Harbor, then downtown, or in the space between the baseball stadium and the mall, as long as we are messing with 81. I vote yes, and that is from someone who used to attend the Dome but will likely never attend an athletic event at SU again, new stadium or not.
