Div I Council grants waiver to allow DI transfer student-athletes in all sports to compete immediately this year

So, uh, this immediate eligibility for transfers thing..

Are they really truly saying that starting now, until the end of the season, a guy can up and xfer from one school and start playing the next day for another?
that. is. nuts.

This applies to guys who transferred during the offseason who had to sit out 2020-21 because their waivers weren't approved.

Effective immediately, everyone who transferred before is now eligible.

Both Miami and Pitt both had a player added to their active rosters yesterday who would have been sitting.

Right. But I don't think it's been directly addressed about guys who up and transfer now and going forward. Are they immediately eligible at their new school? Is it essentially free agency btwn now-March?

The NCAA's Division I Council voted to approve a proposal on Wednesday that will make all transfers immediately eligible in the 2020-21 college basketball season. The measure will afford immediate eligibility for players who are currently ineligible after transferring.

These waivers will only be handed out to players who were sitting after transferring for the first time from a four-year institution, and only those who were enrolled full-time in the fall semester of 2020 would qualify. It will ostensibly serve as a blanket waiver to provide flexibility for players and teams in the midst of the pandemic.

The NCAA is voting this January on permanent one-time blanket waivers.

Obviously, there would have to be rules in place about mid-semester transferring. You shouldn't be able to transfer from one school in March and play right away.

Otherwise, we'd need a lot of bags with a lot of cash.

Most BB transfers were being approved anyways.

The NCAA sucks. I’m with the coaches on this. Kids need to sit out a year if they want to transfer. This can’t devolve into free agent anarchy.
