According to my research, Jamie Dixon is 10 & 4 against Jim Boeheim since he took over the reigns from Ben Howland back in 2003. While he was at Howland's knee they were 5-1 against us for a total of 15-5 in Dixon's time with the Panthers. To say they've had our number would be an understatement. In the past, Pittsburgh has featured a rough and rugged style of play, whereas SU has been more or less a finesse team. Before this seasons rules changes, Dixon took advantage of of the way games were officiated. If his team consistently hand checked, pushed, grabbed and held the refs tended to let them get away with more. Harken back to the original John Thompson Georgetown Hoya style of play. They got away with murder because they were consistent in their defensive strategy. The point of emphasis for the 2013-2014 season for NCAA game officials is to open up the game for more offense. Touching a dribbler is not a foul. Keeping a hand on them is a foul, putting two hands on them is a foul, constantly jabbing at them is a foul. Early in the season, as is the case every other season, the officials started to apply the new rules with vigor. Usually by January things mostly get back to the old way. It's my belief that you can get away with a little more now than you did before conference play started this month. It will be interesting to see how today's game is called and if the rules help us if Pitt goes old school. Here is the tale of the tape 2/29/2004 SU won 49-46 at Pitt 1-0 1/24/2004 Pitt won 66-45 at Dome 1-1 1/29/2005 Pitt won 76-69 at Pitt 1-2 2/15/2005 Pitt won 68-64 at Dome 1-3 1/23/2006 Pitt won 80-67 at Pitt 1-4 3/16/2006 SU won 65-61 @ MSG in the BET 2-4 1/4/2007 Pitt won 74-66 at Dome 2-5 3/1/2008 Pitt won 82-77 at Dome 2-6 1/19/2009 Pitt won 78-60 at Pitt 2-7 1/2/2010 Pitt won 82-72 at Dome 2-8 1/17/2011 Pitt won 74-66 at Pitt 2-9 1/16/2012 SU won 71-63 at Dome 3-9 2/2/2013 Pitt won 65-55 at Pitt 3-10 3/14/2013 SU won 62-59 at MSG in the BET 4-10
