What Happened: Syracuse topped Albany, 17-12
Takeaway: In a much anticipated showdown that normally takes place in February, the Orange rebounded from their loss at Notre Dame in a big way. Taking advantage of Ben Williams going 24-27 at the face-off Syracuse got monster performances from Kevin Rice (3, 4), Henry Schoonmaker (5), and Nicky Galasso (4, 1) to outlast the Great Danes. Rice is once again putting together an outstanding season. As someone on virtually everyone’s Tewaaraton top five at the beginning of the season he has been somewhat overlooked due to the balance and depth of the Orange offense. Make no mistake; he is the maestro behind the cage that gets it done for Syracuse. Rice’s leadership and poise are perhaps his best attribute. Outside of Notre Dame’s Conor Doyle I cannot think of a player who has evolved and improved as much as Kevin Rice of Syracuse.
