[I]What Happened: ACC Tourney picture got focus Takeaway: A tremendous game in Chapel Hill and a sight we are getting used to seeing between Duke and Virginia were on display this weekend in the ACC. By way of their 17-15 win over Syracuse the Tar Heels set up a battle between them and Notre Dame this coming weekend for the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament. It’s hard to believe that prior to 1995 no other team had won an ACC tournament title other than UNC. The win over the Orange has the Tar Heels at 3-0 for the first time in 23 years. That wasn’t the only landmark established on Saturday, as Joey Sankey became the all-time leading scorer in UNC lacrosse history, breaking the record recently established by Marcus Holman. I know that teams play a lot more games these days as opposed to 10-20-25 years ago, but that doesn’t take away the accomplishments of players like Sankey and Holman. Meanwhile, Duke knocked off Virginia 15-8 to grab the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils have now beaten the Cavaliers in 15 of the last 16 meetings. Duke did it with seven goals from Jack Bruckner and a combined five from the dynamic duo of Myles Jones and Deemer Class. With the loss UVa will be placed in the showcase game for the second straight year. But unlike last season in which the opponent was an ACC foe, the Penn Quakers will be the competition in 2015. The Wahoos failed to score in double digits against all four ACC teams; they posted double-digit goal totals against everyone else on their schedule. Virginia has a date with Georgetown this coming weekend. Charlotteville is officially on upset alert.
