started. - Caleb, Darton, Jacquez

Jobbity, EFC, Lockett

After that Ingraham came in for EFC, then Simmons came in for Lockett

I can see Jobbity starting, he was very good.

I like how Rocky changed the DL look, for example at least once they shifted and Lockett was over the center with Thompson as a stand up end next to him. Also a lot of five man fronts.

With the same 11 they showed 3 -3-5, 5-2-4, 4-2-5. Occasionally they showed a six man front.

Wonder if Perry is planned for a redshirt or if he was nicked up.
Maybe they'll give him four games this year against higher competition.

Seemed noticeably bigger than his roster numbers. That front will be better against power run games than anything we could muster last year.
I agree, and it is one of my concerns. We should be but until we can stop someone from jamming it down our throats...I do think we are better equipped this year.

All night

DT’s are Darton, EFC, Ingraham

So this is above my pay grade, but it seems like we sometimes line up 1 DE and 2 DTs. I thought I noticed with Lockett being lined up between a center and guard. And then one of the LBs was creeping up to essentially be the other DE in what looked like a 4-2-5 look.

Maybe I don't have that right, but I just thought it was Rocky Long throwing a bunch of different looks at people.

We ran that a lot last year. 4-2-5 creeping up a LB. (Linton and McDonald, Lowery)

If we’re bumping our former starting NT/DT out to DE at 280 in a 3 across set this is a big deal I think.

In this system, it's important for our DL to have speed / lateral mobility -- not just as pass rushers, but also to chase down plays sideline-to-sideline and flow to the ball.

A guy like Darton is clearly a DT, but he's fast. Ingraham showed good mobility on Saturday, too. Lockett is also a guy who can move his feet.

Okechukwu / Jobbity / Jacquez are DEs, but they are big enough to play the run.

Interchangeable. You could have a 300 pounder like Ingraham line up inside one play, but play "DE" on the next and pass rush.

Our staff has really done a nice job of identifying guys who aren't highly recruited but have the attributes required for the 3-3-5. And now we're seeing it play out. Would be great if it had worked out in our favor to have a true stud DE like Jared Verse, but we have lots of dudes at DL. Give me Okechukwus and Jobbitys all day, every day.

Like Go stated above, we go 11 deep this year at DL -- with quality, and little dropoff.

So nice to have Stef back too. A 6-1 250 lb LB coming up to the LOS is a fun weapon. Easy to forget he is a LB not a DE.

I meant same 11 on the field, no need to substitute, but they can play a bunch of different fronts and formations.

As for the DL they have the ability now to rotate and keep guys at below 40 snaps, which is huge, both in a game, and through the year.

Sorry -- misread what you were stating above.

But I still think we can play that many DL, with quality.
  1. Okechukwu
  2. Darton
  3. Jacquez
  4. Lockett
  5. Ingraham
  6. Jobbity
  7. Simmons
  8. Fuentes-Cundiff
  9. Gordon
  10. Perry
  11. Smith
  12. Bassette

I'm highly confident in 1 - 8. And admittedly, 9 through 11 on that list are frosh. Bassette [#12] hasn't played much. But man, that's a lot of depth. And I'm guessing that at least two of those frosh will emerge as contributors.

HUGE rotation, with limited dropoff.

Wonder were Nolton fits.

The 2nd string - Fuentes, Lockett and Jobity played the 3rd series of the game. Ingraham played a bunch of snaps in the first half to. (I forget which series exactly he came in.) Ingraham wasn't explosive off the snap - like Darton is - but I was impressed with how he moved. He's pretty athletic and can move well for a big guy. I'm pretty excited about this group moving foward.

Francois Nolton I don't believe got any snaps.

Anyone know what the snap counts were? I think the paper had it.
