For those of you that always reminisce to the glory days, or can't figure out why kids don't understand SU's tradition, or why the McNabb era SU uniforms carry absolutely no weight to most people, take a look at this easy to read chart!

The class of 2020 was mostly born in 2001, so anything before 2008 is in that seven-year window when memories might not last. Going back into history, the list of FBS teams to have won a national title in that span are Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Auburn, and Florida. Some of those memories might be getting fuzzy.

That means most members of the 2020 signing class do not remember seeing LSU, Texas, USC, Miami, or Oklahoma win a national title.

read that earlier and thought the exact same thing

In my opinion tradition and history of a program is the most overrated aspect of college sports. Current kids don't remember what they had for lunch let alone what a school outside the Top 5 is doing in a sport.

Clemson was an afterthought outside the South until Dabo showed up and when he leaves I think they return to their regional delusion. A great coach/recruiter > tradition.

By the same logic then, any team can overcome a long dry spell. If kids don’t care about tradition past 12 years ago, then it isn’t an issue.
Well, unless you're Rutgers, I guess I agree.

Oops - edit. I just noticed this thread was about winning a title. Scratch the Rutgers comment. ;)

So true. These kids have the attention span on a knat and what happened decades ago doesn't matter. Sure they love the glitzy hallways, walls, and showcases 44 built through the years bc added all together, it's bling. That said, in the end 44 and national championships decades ago aren't decision points with recruits.

Its about the now. The facilities. the feel and vibe of the visit, the relationship with their position coach, proximity from home, the HC, early PT? Academic major? Basically all the ME stuff and I get it.

Tradition matters when it is sustained and recent. Alabama's Bear Bryant history would be almost meaningless if they had fallen of the cliff we fell off of. Because of Saban, it's now enhanced.

Tradition matters when it is passed on from generation to generation. There are kids that are fans of teams and they don't even know why. They just are.

With regards to uniforms, they don't need to look like any specific era. They need to look good and be quickly recognizable as Syracuse. The last did neither.

Yeah, I think the whole “wear a different color scheme every week“ thing is pointless. How can you establish/reestablish a brand that way? Our new unis are fine...just stick to the school’s established color schemes for football. There’s zero reason to ever wear all blue or all grey. All white is kinda corny too because any school could do that. Stick to the orange/white/blue combos and maybe do a one off orange out. It’s really not that hard to get this right.

you mean what you think is right. i perfer the alternating colors as long as it is O B or W. I also love the White out unis and should do it once a year and an Orange out twice a year. once on halloween week and once around thanksgiving.

So you're saying we are on the same footing as Nebraska & Southern Cal & Michigan & Texas? I like it!

I agree, but unfortunately, the recent stuff, let's call it within a decade; doesn't qualify as tradition. Its true and I get it.

Sure, but you need the recent stuff to connect the past to the present for anyone outside the fanbase to care.

Kids do not care about tradition. Maybe a few do but many truly just don’t care. Things that matter now are tv exposure, brand of shoe company the school is sponsored by (jordan brand especially), and if that school can make them become a pro. These kids these days aren’t just different and I’m only 33 and they can be infuriating, but they definitely don’t care about tradition the way some people think that it should be such a huge factor in coming to a school. Those days are long gone

I was born after it... but I still care about it. I don't have to remember it.
