are we looking at a huge crowd advantage in boston? seems like pitt was a disappointment crowd wise. im not expecting albany again, but a big crowd advantage would be huge.

Wisconsin fans travel very well. There are also MANY of them in the northeast. I have many friends in CT, NY and MA who are Badger alums and strong fans.

Very strong fanbase that travels well...not to mention OSU fans eating up tickets. I dont think Boston will be quite as strong for us as it was in '03.

According to OSU fans we talked to in Pittsburgh, Wisconsin travels very well. Between them and OSU I think people are a bit overly optimistic about SU taking over the TD Garden. We will have the largest contingent but it won't be a take over like we have seen before.

Wisconsin fans are like a plague of locusts.

Huge school, large alumni base.

Same goes for Ohio State [obviously].

yea i dont think boston is gonna be as big a crowd advantage as people think. its not exactly in syracuse's backyard, even though the media thinks the entire east coast is in syracuse's backyard. im sure we'll have more fans than the other 3 schools, but its not like its gonna be 75% orange.

Just a WAG for fun. (% of schools fans, knowing some in the building will be "neutral" locals).

SU - 35%
OSU - 30%
Wisky - 25%
Cincy - 10%

Maybe SU is about 5% higher with OSU and Wisky being a little lower each.

I wonder who the OSU fans would root for in our matchup versus Wisconsin. Conference rematch for them, they lost their last game to the Badgers, etc. They might actually be pulling for us, to avoid facing a familiar foe.

It's not like Wisconsin is Michigan to them. And I can't see them rooting for the team (SU) to beat the team that beat them last. . . . unless they follow Sportscenter.

Didn't say it was their Michigan. But Wisconsin has been a particular thorn in OSU's side in recent years. They've lost to them in football [including a loss two years ago that knocked them out of a prospective berth in the NC game].

Trust me--I'm married to a die hard Ohio State fan. Wisconsin is on their minds. Not suggesting that they're "scared" of Wisconsin, just that it might be a matchup that they'd root against having to play again.

When they played UNC in the elite 8 at the dome a while back it seemed like they traveled pretty well. Everyone I met was pretty nice, but maybe that was just because I wasent a UNC fan.

Wisconsin fans generally don't live and die with their team (outside of the Packers); they kind of look at this as a big party and are mostly looking to have a good time. If they win, great, if they lose, well, life goes on. I'll be surprised if the Cuse fans in Boston hear much Fine/cheater crap from Wisconsin fans...doesn't seem to fit their MO.

No, they were just drunk. Wisconsin-ites drink more than any other "people" I've ever met. Wisconsin + Boston = alcohol shortage at the bars

ohio st will be rooting for wisconsin, no doubt about it. we're the 1 seed, wisconsin the 4, all theyll care about is the easier elite 8 matchup.

How many Boston College fans will be there? Oh wait! NONE!

call 1-800-go-badgers at 3PM and find out

I think lost in this is that most schools travel differently based on event. A school may travel well to away games in Conf compared to tournaments. Wisc travels well in fball to B10 games. if they came to the dome would they travel as well? Wisc travels well to Hockey but much better for finals that for regionals.

how many tickets were left unsold before the teams were decided? of the presold most would have been SU/OSU fans and the rest just fans of bball, none would have been cinci and very few Wisc. now those schools get a few tickets more. so the rest is from resale and since most of the presale(su-osu fans) isnt looking to sell, that doesnt leave much for wisc/cinci to get. Wisc will not have 25% of the fans in the bldg. they may however get the OSU fans to root for them making it seem like more..

OSU and Wisky fans will travel and also have sizeable alumni bases in the area. I expect OSU and Cincy fans will be rooting for Wisky. It will be SU against the world. While we will have the largest single block, we will be outnumbered substantially in Boston. This is not Albany '03.

I think its fair to say that Thursday, we're going to be continue to be ganged up by the 3 other fanbases in the building. If we were to get to Saturday, the building becomes more Orange.

Will that be reciprocated by Syracuse fans?

I went to the 1999 Rose Bowl and at least 75% of the stadium was red. They were playing UCLA. (Take as much time as you need.)

Before I saw this post, I was going to comment on the recent travel schedule of the team itself. This month, they went from Madison to Indy, then back to Madison. Then all the way out to Albuquerque. Back to Madison for a few days and then it's off to Boston. That's a lot of frequent flyer miles.

Wisconsin fan here. I think Badger fans are very passionate and loyal, but whoever said that they like to drink and have a good time is pretty accurate -- losing doesn't necessarily mean we won't have a great time. If UW had 25% of the crowd, though, I'd be shocked.

I think the OSU fans will probably root for UW, but they will feel dirty doing it -- as for me -- go Cincy! We split with OSU, each winning on the other's floor. OSU & especially Sullinger and his dad have a fairly intense dislike of UW right now & the feeling's mutual. We have hated MSU a lot more and for a lot longer, but OSU is getting up there.

Their football team has played in the Champs Sports Bowl a few times here in Orlando and I remember being pretty impressed with the turnout. Football/Basketball ... but just fwiw.

Dont bother comparing it to Albany. Albany was 95% 'Cuse' fans, 5% 'does it really matter?'
